I used to maintain forest access roads (In Colorado) until they decided to close most of them to restrict access. Now it's impossible to get fire fighting equipment in besides on foot or by parachute. Open the gates and give me a call and I'll get those roads back open. We can liimit how devastating these fires are getting. We used to know better.

Defensible space around inhabited areas should me mandatory. Forests are designed by nature to burn every 30 to 60 years. Fire is necessary for long term forest health. Many pine cones need fire to open and release the seeds where they will be carried by the wind.

I'm praying for rain (or even snow) to help the fire crews get these fires contained.
Also for the people, pets and forest animals.
When this is said and done, DEMAND proper forest management. And do fire mitigation on your property.
