The cops show up at your door trying to get you to talk to them outside. What do you do? Do NOT go outside! ❌

They're trained to get you outside when they come to your door. Why? Because they are in control of the situation and want you to help them with their investigation. They will be detaining you and asking you questions about the matter they are there for, which could get you into trouble. So, don't go outside, or open the door, when the cops come knocking! If they try to convince you that you're required to come outside, know that this is not true unless they have a valid warrant.

I would say....as a RULE... NEVER open your door to the police unless they have a valid warrant. Make them prove they have a warrant because they lie about that too. Police like to stick their foot in your doorway to prevent you from closing your door. Then if you try to shut it on their foot they will arrest you for assault. In fact, make sure your door is locked too.

Don't answer the door. Act like it's Jehovah's Witnesses out there.
Just like Jehovah's Witnesses, the police never come uninvited to your house to help you with anything.
There is no upside to interacting with them.

Don’t open the door for them, ask for a warrant. If they do not have a warrant let them know they need to leave your property. If they refuse let them know that you were going to call the state police on them for armed criminal trespass. Let them know you’re also gonna call your attorney and a local media
