Ah idk
But our bio teacher told us to put a drop of glycerine first on the slide and then the safranine stained onion peel on it so that the cells of onion peel doesn't dry up.
And one thing that I want to tell you that you were holding slide incorrectly cause we have to hold the slide from the sides while I swear I could see ur fingerprints on the slide...

From my point of view you should use forceps to peel out the transparent part from onion rather than using fingers
