The Kodak Vest Pocket Autographic was one of the first compact camera’s and it was released over 100 years ago, during the peak of the first world war. The camera was often marketed as "The Soldier's Camera" since men of various nationalities took these cameras into war intending to document their grand adventure. However, many were unprepared for the reality they were about to endure...

This is such a good idea, not just using a WW1 lens but staging a photo shoot in a ww1 trench dressed period appropriately, looks amazing 👍👍

I can't quite explain why but the sleeping soldier type reenactments capture the feeling of the original images the best in my opinion.
It really gives off the mood of a quiet moment amidst the storm.

Great job. Enjoyed it. It’s very noticeable that your actor looked too healthy & clean. Also he didn’t have that ‘1, 000 mile stare’ that so many combatants had. It’s an observation not a criticism as it highlights how much trauma the young men in the trenches suffered as opposed to a reenactment. Love the concept of the old lens on a DSLR. Good work!

This deserves much more views. The time and respect you put into this project is incredible. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.

That’s why photography is so important. To be able to remember. Generation after generation. When I see what’s happening this days, I think the whole world should remember again what happened already far to often and not do the same mistakes again…
Great video. 👍🏻

Amazing that the lens renders in such a sharp manner for the time it was produced. Amazing work.

I salute you sir. What an amazing project that brought a little tear. I have sent your fundraiser a little something. It's the least I could do. Well done.

This is by far the coolest concept/project/photoshoot I’ve ever seen. Great job!

I think this makes a really nice refreshing contrast to the way film makers go for rlly complicated lenses with lower and lower F-stops and wider zooms these days. The images on this lens r just really clear, they’re sharp and they make a full point leaving nothing to the imagination!! Truly, truly inspiring!!

Thank you for such a wonderful film. Shows how sharp the lenses were 100 years ago.
Kudos for the respect of the men who fought in the trenches.

It's so satisfying to see a resurgence of real vintage camera tech. My only real critique of the photos you captured is that the talent's face is squeaky clean in a setting such as a wartime trench, and I feel some grime would do the trick to alleviate that while adding more interesting texture to the image. That detail is independent of the lens and camera, so not a big deal whatsoever. Great job and even greater find!

My great uncle served in the British Army in machine gun corps at Gallipoli and tank corps at the Canal Zone
Your pictures are not ofthe same theater but give me a bit of the feeling they must have felt being there.

Many thanks for creating this amazing piece of human history. Although I wasn’t born during that time, I know how much the Great War, touched our family. My grandmother lost her husband in 1916 at the Somme and never remarried. I have researched my family history and I know his name etc. I know my family is not alone in this story and it’s really important to keep their memories alive. ❤

Great work, I'd love to try something like this myself, but I feel like a huge part of the old look is down to the actual film used back then as well.

When you see the soldiers go into the fog, and disappear...

It hints at the grim truth doesn't it.

Even though these images are recreations, they are still powerful, poignant, and so evocative. You begin to get a hint of just how horrific the trenches must have been. A moving set of images that can only make you weep at the profound and senseless loss of lives - so many of them, young.

Thanks for sharing. I don't know if you recorded your process of making the lens, but I would love to see that if you did!
