Unless you have some serious evidence the rest of us haven't seen yet, Bret, you can't possibly know that. It's just a hypothesis. And, while it is one of the top hypotheses, I'd say it actually ranks second to the idea that these things are using some sort of anti-gravity technology that allows them to move in ways that we just don't understand, and that are way beyond our capabilities.

Your "projection" hypothesis doesn't jibe well with the many different types of readings (infrared, radar, visual, et al) that pick these things up in basically identical ways, nor the many sightings of them moving into the water, out of the water, and underneath the water.

The "anti-gravity technology" hypothesis jibes far better with those observations.

Sure. The only issue is that pilots of WWII were also reporting the same phenomenon in the skies over Europe and Asia, before computers and lasers / holo-projectors even existed.
