A lot of investors have become wise enough to understand that it makes sense to invest when the market is down. Most of the investors are willing to take advantage of the current economic downfall. But the biggest question is:

Should we invest in mutual funds or stocks?

While it is fascinating to see a few stocks giving multi-bagger returns, but they are all good in hindsight. The question is - Who to identify multi-baggers in the future?

YES I agree with you. But many MF give low return or negative. Such situation we feel those fund managers donot do right job and play with our money. with loss we suffer.

Yes, That's why we should save in both. Good companies will give good return and remaining should go in mutual funds for downside protection. There's no one shoe fits all. Try both while keeping some portfolio in fixed income instruments

As a starter you should always invest in Mutual funds, however after 5 years of investing experience you need to change your focus to quality stocks . Learning self is one important habit for you to be successful in stock market . You will always end up having average or below average returns in mutual funds . Mutual funds is for people with middle class mentality . Dont taking risk is not the right approach instead managing the risk is the new approach. Learn more and invest in quality stocks. All big investors grown by investing in stocks and not in Mutual funds .

Your explanation style is very good. It gives one sense that your aim is to protect the general investors from losing money, a selfless endeavour. Incidentally your balancing investment between MF & Stock matches with mine. Sharing your style gives me relief. Thanks.

Thats true Sahil. But if observe the commanalities among the companies that continue to exist in N50 they all have high ROCE, ROE and low debt (NPA in case of banks).
Most of the companies that did poorly are those working in heavy capex industries and high debt.
Its not that hard as long as one keeps reviewing stocks twice a year. You can refer to strategic indices and bluechip MF portfolios, if a stock leaves these lists you need to sell it ruthlessly.
You must compound 0.46% expense ratio over 20 years, thats a big amount.
If someone does not want to do anything, indexing is best I agree.

Hi Sahil, i am now regular watcher of your videos. While i do agree that mutual funds are better managed by fund managers sometimes the trap of getting richer faster is so high that most of people end up investing in stocks without even knowing the details of it. The final result is financial loss.

Well explained sir,
SIP has another advantage that discipline of investment. Means every month certain amount is strictly invested. Which generally miss when we invest in stocks.
