The BEST Blues Left Hand Pattern for Piano (Easy Version)

What’s up my piano friends! Today we’re going to learn the BEST left hand pattern for blues piano. Why do I think it’s the best? Couple reasons…

First, it sounds great. Second it’s easy, even for beginners (it’s actually only FOUR notes! You’ll see what I mean in the video…) Third, it’s very adaptable, meaning you can use it in a TON of situations. Fourth, as you’ll see in the video, by adding a few simple variations you can turn this ONE left hand pattern into SIX patterns very easily without a ton of extra practice! Hows that for bang-for-your-buck ;)

Here’s how the video’s going to be organized:

Part 1: I’m going to demo the pattern so you know what it sounds like with improvisation over the top.

Part 2: I’ll show you the exact notes to play.

Part 3: This is where we go over the Accelerated Learning Techniques, which help us learn the pattern faster AND drill it deeper into our brain. Basically formulas and systems to faster learning. In other words, not WHAT to learn, but HOW to learn it. This section is VERY IMPORTANT. Most people who don’t use these techniques end up learning the pattern sloppily (especially when they try to get hands together coordination working!), so make sure you stick around for this part.

Part 4: This is the fun part. Once you’ve drilled the pattern, now we can multiply it into 6 different patterns very easily with a few simple variations. So by the end of it you’ll have 6 different patterns in your “piano toolbox”.

Part 5: This is where you get the cheat sheet and bonuses! So stick around to the end :) Oh, and there’s also an extra video on getting the RIGHT hand improv part down. Which, I’m going to be honest, is even easier than the left hand. So make sure you pick up the cheat sheet and bonuses, here’s how to do it:

CHEAT SHEET + BONUSES INSTRUCTIONS:
2. Sign Up with your name and email (yes, it’s really free lol)
3. Get your bonuses!

Happy practicing!

Zach, i've been wanting to learn piano forever. now that i'm retired, i'm so glad to have come across your videos on youtube. Not only are your lessons easy to follow and make perfect sense, but they are fun to watch even when i'm not near my piano. After watching a video all the way through, i can't wait to get home and practice the new techniques you've taught me.
And i'm starting to think about them when my head hits the pillow at night.
That can't be a bad thing. Thanks for all your hard work putting these lessons together. I sincetely appreciate it.

Thank you, Zach. I just turned 77 and started learning how to play the piano through an on line correspondence course last March, 2021. I love watching the Boogie Woogie Blues and want to learn this, so thanks for the lesson.

I must say at 48 and just starting back with piano since I was 7, you are THE BEST teacher on YouTube. You are so patient with your teaching and you actually have the best angles for showing your hands on the keys. I have subscribed and will go from Beginner to Mastery after your lessons (big smile). Thank You!!!!

BATMAN! I love how you don’t over complicate things with technical terms. I can learn a scale and feel rewarded and continue to learn. I’m not really interested in learning songs I’d just love to improv.

Since finding you on YouTube I have fallen in love with playing piano its not a chore to practice and because I am making progress so fast I am amazing myself. You are by far the best teacher ever ❤ thank you so much . I can lose a couple of hours just playing !!! Not good for the housework I am not young (64) but just shows that it's never too late to learn a skill if you are the teacher. Seriously thanks again x

Flash. I have been a school teacher for over 21 years. (Miss being with the kids due to Covid. ) I have been searching for a piano teacher that allows me to actually just play piano without all the music theory. You are an incredible piano teacher. Thanks for all you do. PS My son took 5 years of piano lessons starting at 7 years old and hated it. I am hoping he starts watching your videos and picks up the joy of playing piano.

Hi. Loving these lessons. I played when I was younger. I'm 51 and have started up again. I also just a couple of months back chopped off half my pointer finger on my left hand. I'm replacing finger with the next one down as best as possible and would just like to thank you for your time you put in. I'm a carpenter, work is a bit harder and piano I thought would be impossible yet I'm loving it again thanks to you.

Thank you Zach. There seem to be a good deal of repetition of concepts of four. Four notes in each grouping c, e, g, a + f, a, c, d + g, c, d, e. The rhythmic patterns were also helpful. Long, short, long, short - Short, long, short, long - Long, short, short, short - Short, long, long, long. Repeating each exercise four times. I am sure you have done a great amount of research figuring out leaning hacks. Bless you good sir. Only a couple of minutes in. For years I have only been playing a triad in regard to the a basic 12 bar blues or 8 bar variation. Learned more in a half hour using your method than I have in the last 10 years. That says a lot!

Probably the best lesson on muscle memory. You teach not only the song, the pattern, but also the technique, tricks, process and common mistakes people will make. Thanks very much for the valuable sharing. You are really amazing.. Looking forward more lessons like this!

This is awesome Zach!! As a complete beginner, I wasn't sure where to start. Everything seemed to difficult although the videos clearly stated BEGINNNER, until I stumbled across your videos. The way you teach fundamentals like hand coördination and strategies to learn, move and play smarter is inspiring. I went from zero to more than I had hoped for in a mere week and it has been loads of fun. Thanks so much for doing what you do best.
