It sounds horrible, but it bugs me if I don't get a character to look this good. They'll look fine in creation but in game it looks so off with some of the animations and it takes me out of the game especially when bioware make all its companions so god damn beautiful. I might start my game over since I'm not too far in. Thank you :)

The main problem is that many of the Bioware default heads stray too far from actual anatomy, at least to the point that if you tweak just a little more in the "same direction" you get some alien results. The faceshape used in this video has the nasal bridge placed far too low to make the character look good in profile, for example. If you choose the wrong basic skull (faceshape) for the face you want to create, the face will never look good. It might look good from the front, or in the cutscenes but it will look "off" in regular play or vice versa. If you want to look good (cool, sexy, whatever..) in all situations you need to make a balanced face that follows the basic principles of anatomy and facial proportions.

The distance between eyes are exactly the width of one eye, which is more or less the same width as the nostril width. The mouth is slightly wider than the nostril width and the chin width should be less than the mouth width. The face consists of three parts, basically. Bottom of chin to bottom of the nose, bottom of the nose to brow ridge (slightly above where the nasal bridge should, usually, connect with the forehead) and from that spot and up to the hairline. These three parts should have more or less the same length. Generally, Africans often has the nose part shorter and nasal bridge lower, Asians has the chin part smaller and Arabs the nose part longer and so on. There are more obvious differences in the profiles (side view) but I'm not going into that here. Anyway, we're talking tiny differences here, but the visual difference is still notable. There are always individual differences that "break" the rules, which is why people look vastly different while following the same basic anatomy rules. To place the eyes correctly, remove hair on your Inquisitor and place an A4 sheet of paper on the screen. Hold it equal to the top of the skull  and make a tiny rift (avoid pencil on the screen) where the bottom of the chin is. Take a ruler and mark the middle spot between the paper edge and the rift. This is where the eyes should be. If the mark aligns with the lashes, the eyes are placed too low, and if it aligns with the bottom lashes, the eyes are too high. Align it with the center of the pupils to place them "correctly". Move them slightly up or down to find the magical beauty spot that fits the rest of the face and your preference.

Now, obviously all faces aren't exactly like described here or in the linked post, but if you follow those rules when you make the basis of your face before you start tweaking a little (and I mean subtle tweaks), you will get good results. Pink, for example, has a very short nose and a strong chin, but she's still beautiful. If you make the nose a bit shorter and the chin a bit longer and wider you get a completely different face, even if the changes you make are tiny. So the best advice would be to avoid extremes at any cost.

Always remember; Everybody has different views on beauty, and all races and variants of humans are generally beautiful.

Thanks a million for this!... I followed this tutorial, then tweaked it a bit, and I love the outcome of my character. I was in the character creation for almost TWO HOURS!.. I'm playing through as a Human, Female, Rogue (Dual Blade) that is Feisty, Sexy and has an Attitude!... And with the Armor of the Dragon, and Flaming weapons from the Deluxe edition. She looks all the more bad arse. I've like this video, added to my favorites, and subscribed to your channel! :D

2024, I still return to this video for some guidance for new characters, listening to the AIRPLANE in the background.

Thank you so much, female characters are always hard for me, you can't just cover their ugly mug with a beard like you can with males.

Oh holy cow, only 1:15 passes and you already make attractive woman already! I was restart the game like 10 times just to create attractive girl on my first play through!! unsuccessfully lol!!

That is so unreal. My own character is nearly identical to yours, down to the skin tone, hair colour and shape and the eyes. Those eyes really do make the face; having the inner eye corner turned down slightly just looks gorgeous.

Wow she looks beautiful; I'm playing the game again as an elf. I'll use some of these tricks to make my elf even more beautiful.

Thank you very much for this tutorial, I was hopeless without it. I've just made an attractive, confident-looking character I think I'll be happy to spend numerous hours of gameplay with. Seven years later this video is still providing a valuable service.

Is Bioware trolling us? The character creation tools are like, geared towards making the ugliest most goofy looking fucks I've ever seen. "Hey put all the craziest looking noses and eyebrows in there, and make all the women look like they've spent the first 17 years of their lives having their heads bounced off a rock. That'll be fun."

Oh, so I can rotate the camera during character creation? Good thing I looked it up after seeing my first Inquisitor from profile and she looked like her face was carved from stone. Now I could make a decent-looking one. I just need to get over the fact that in cutscenes she uses the male animations and moves like a gorilla with an invisible horse between her legs. Shame modders can't fix that.

Thank you sooo much!! I’m replaying the game after 6 years and my character looked busted. Your tips helped soooo much

Oh my gosh, my character actually looks as good as some of the NPCs and I always wanted my character to look as good as Cass, but she always has looked like a total derp compared to her. Now she looks so good! Thank you for your tutorial!!!

Hello. Thank you for this tutorial.
I followed through exactly everything from this video, and I have to say.. she looks fabulous, especially in cutscenes.
But... during free roam gameplay, I zoom into my character's face by using any object to help the camera "zoom" in, and.. she doesn't look too good lol.
Her nose looks out of shape, and she just looks completely different from cutscenes. I'm assuming there's just less character details during free roaming gameplay, but it is a bit disappointing. Anyhow, thanks again.

Thanks for this :). I just got DA:I yesterday and am going with a female mage. I made a few little minor tweaks to mine but followed your basic template, and she came out great!
