In this lecture, I have discussed the basic principles of Rests and Rests of Removable Partial Denture (RPD).

- Rests are those components of the removable partial denture that help to provide the vertical support to the denture. While the rest seats are prepared surfaces on the tooth in which the rest is seated.
- The main function of the Rests in Removable Partial Denture is to direct the forces of mastication, along the long axis of the abutment.
- If the Rests in removable partial denture are placed directly onto the abutment, they will never be able to seat in properly. Therefore some sort of tooth preparation is necessary in order to accommodate the metallic rests.
- This Prepared surface on the tooth are known as the rest seats.
