Kozhikode: As many as 653 candidates have applied for MBBS admission in NRI quota in Kerala, according to information provided by the Office of the Entrance Commissioner. The admission and fees regulatory committee, headed by Justice R Rajendra Babu, has fixed Rs 20 lakh per annum for NRI quota, which comprises 15 per cent of the total seats. This means, a student who has got admission in this category, has to pay Rs 1 crore over 5 years. Considering the number of students who have not been included in the list and those who grabbed admission in colleges outside the state, there will be a total of 1000 students who are ready to pay Rs 1 crore for a medical seat, MES Chairman P A Fazal Gafoor said.
