So, the kid will loose their dad by the time they are 8, maybe 10 if their lucky. Then they'll be in their early 20s when the loos their mom, 30 if they're lucky.

I'm sorry, having a kid that old is not fair to the kid. They could have adopted a decade for 2 before.
