The documentary film BEYOND BELIEF, directed by Jim Lemkin, explores the nature, uses and limits of beliefs and the consequences of unexamined beliefs. This heart-centered movie investigates real-life stories of people who, when they dared to question, discovered new worlds of understanding and common ground beyond their old beliefs. We go on a journey with wise ones and distinguish harming from healing beliefs. A compelling and open-minded film, BEYOND BELIEF asks what it really takes to fulfill our deepest and most sacred human needs beyond the realm of beliefs.


ABOUT HORSE MOUNTAIN INSTITUTE

HORSE MOUNTAIN INSTITUTE (HMI) is a non-profit public charity, 501(c)(3). Our mission is to engage in educational activities which promote holistic perspectives in health and healing of body, mind, spirit and society. One of our most recent films on the subject of healing and conscious dying, WALKING AT THE EDGE, aired nationally on PBS. We produced and disseminated an audio CD, NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION AS A WAY TO PEACE, without charge to thousands of persons and groups nationally and internationally. It introduces practical ways for individuals, organizations and communities in conflict to communicate effectively, ensuring that all parties are able to express their authentic needs and feelings and be heard.

Currently a new film, BEYOND BELIEF, is in production. It asks, "Can individuals and communities with conflicting beliefs find meaningful common ground and human to human connection beyond the realm of those harming beliefs and belief systems?" It encourages open-minded inquiry into the causes and consequences of unexamined beliefs.

Another HMI project in production is CORPORATION AS HEALER, a book that introduces natural medicine's most time-tested principles of healing and applies them to corporate governance and consciousness. It is fundamentally a new cross-disciplinary model that creates healthy and profitable corporations using a holistic framework of wellbeing for all stakeholders in all ways.

You overcome that contradiction with what questions are we trying to answer in our religion. Put short, if the core of the religious teaching (or truth) is to treat others how you would like to be treated, and basic values…who cares about the religion you used to understand that

Amazing SOUL, I have a son, who is an atheist, and I see the truth in this thinking that His Holiness expresses. Some of the comments are really mean. Why cant we think that all religions are ultimately conveying the same message, that is to be good, do good. I'm personally believe that all religions and teachings eg: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism are beautiful

God and religions are a shared ideology, fed by each cultural idiosyncrasy, since mankind's childhood.
If there's a real God, IS beyond human concepts and beyond rational aknowlegement by the ordinary human mind. Tao : The Tao that can be trodden is not the enduring and unchanging Tao. The name that can be named is not the enduring and unchanging name.

The main cause of violence around the world is the attitude of one’s beliefs or faiths as the truth and superior to the other. Just imagine if every religion messenger has an ideology of his holiness then the world will be better place to live.

This might be a little far-fetched but I just want to add something.

As a martial arts teacher of about 4 different styles, some that I know have similar techniques (like punches and kicks), others have moves that are totally different but can be just as effective. It depends on which matches your "fight-or-flight" thinking.

Like the 20+ belief systems, there are many different styles of self-defense, and you choose which one makes the most sense to YOU. Because to me, it's whatever works for the person practicing them. There is no right or wrong way of protecting yourself. So why should there be ONE TRUE martial art?

Now add "religion" to my little statement and tell me what you think.

Thousands of religions on Earth with no solid foundation. Many religions are in fact just hybrids of an older religion, and perhaps that was a hybrid and so on and so on.  My conclusion: No such thing as a true relgion.  Every person on the planet is capable of creating his very own path to spiritual enlightenment. We don't need religion to accomplish this, just good ol human mind and heart, both filled with endless possibilities.

I have noticed that my Bible has 1, 465 pages and with in this Bible there are 73 different books in total with thousands and thousands of different verses all with unique ideas made to help equip someone for all they need for the purposes of good works, and to help them lead a Godly life. I myself would need multiple life times to savior all the food in this menu of thoughts. Peace be with you my friends.
