I have the Elite 95S and most recently bought the Prera, and they’re both wonderful pocket-sized pens. I especially love my new Prera, and in my opinion, it beats the Kaweco Sport as an EDC pocket pen, and the Metropolitan as a first Pilot pen. My Prera is a fine nib with the Royal Blue body, and I bought mine on Amazon US for under 30 dollars.

I’ll be bold and say I think the Prera offers a better writing experience than the Elite/E95S. The Elite of course looks classier and has a 14k nib, but the actual writing experience I have with it is less enjoyable than I do with the Prera. I don’t know how Pilot did it, but they created a proper pocket pen that feels like writing with a full size pen (not an M1000 or King of Pen but a regular size pen). And while the capping mechanism on the Elite feels nice, to me it doesn’t have the same sense of satisfaction that I get when I cap and uncap the Prera. I’d take the Prera over any other small size pen I can think of, including the Elite, the Pro Gear Slim, the Sport, I could go on. For $25-$35 the Prera is such a home run. And you can get it with a stub nib! There aren’t too many pens on the low price end that offer nibs other than F and M.

I own a few Preras because I love them so much. You can also eye dropper them easily with the application of silicone grease. Just such a well balanced, well made, versatile pen. I’d take it over the Metropolitan, the Safari, any of the iconic starter pens.

I don’t have a Prera….however, I may have to change that lol :-) I *am*, however, a BIG fan of the Stella/Stargazer. In my experience, the Pilot #3 Gold nibs are fantastic! Such a shame nobody wanted them when they were readily available. I also really like the E95s/Elite. I need to get one in a Fine nib(mines a Med, and a very generous Med at that). I think Pilot Fines are the perfect daily writers, no matter what pen/nib combo they’re had in. Great video!

The Pilot Petit 1 is a surprisingly good pen for the price. I haven't tried a Prera yet. I don't mind if a Kaweco Sport sometimes ends up in the same pocket as my keys. The nicer finish of the Prera makes it less of a knock-around pen. I do like the warmer blue of the Waterman ink.

I totally agree with you about the Pilot prera which I prefer in the demonstrator version with blue top&tail and swapped out with my preferred EF nib: utterly unbeatable imho - the feel of this pen in just exactly right:); also agree about Pilot/Namiki blue: absolutely not my favourite blue at all: it’s excessively wet imho; Waterman serenity blue is just a gorgeous colour:)

I have the Petit1 and Prera (Iro-Ai demonstrator with CM nib) and I really like them both. The Petit1 can handle heavy sheening and shimmer inks very well. Also, the cap seals really well. Sadly, it looks like the Petit1 was discontinued and it is getting harder to find.

I never heard of the Petite 1. It looks worth investigating. I am not a big fan of EDC / pocket pens either but I just got a Wing Sung Wancai and it surprising nice pen. This may be my second pen.

I remember when the Stella 90s was much more affordable! I agree with you - the Elite is still the king
