The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the 2030 Agenda

Rapid economic development in Asia has often come at the cost of human rights abuses related to forced labour, deforestation and environmental degradation, sexual harassment, and forced displacement. The UN Guiding Principles serve as a means of implementation for the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. UNDP works to advance business and human rights agenda in Asia and to ensure effective implementation of the UNGPs.

The UNGPs do not only outline the responsibilities of business to respect human rights, but also the responsibilities of States to protect human rights. Unfortunately, many States in Asia and the Pacific, and elsewhere, are failing to step up and adequately fulfill these responsibilities. It's difficult to lead from behind.
