This recording is from the 11th of May 2021

The ongoing Myanmar crisis has put tremendous pressure on ASEAN in balancing its cherished norms of non-intervention with its aspirations for regional centrality and internal unity, with several members having condemned the violence. The crisis has been described as representing an existential crisis for ASEAN, hindering regional economic cooperation as well as risking marginalizing the bloc in the eyes of the world if it fails to adequately respond to the crisis. However, ASEAN remains in position to play a meaningful role in stopping Myanmar’s bloodshed.

This webinar will attempt to understand just how the Myanmar crisis threatens Myanmar's internal unity and regional centrality, and what role can ASEAN play in bringing all main stakeholders both inside and outside the country to the negotiating table.
