Anomalous coronary arteries may require intervention or may require monitoring. Dr. Joanna Ghobrial and Dr. Gosta Pettersson answer questions about anomalous coronary arteries and myocardial bridge, including types of anomalous coronary arteries, which ones should be operated on or not, how surgery is performed, what is included in an evaluation, decision making for treatment approach, types of surgery performed, and the role of interventional procedures in this patient population.

Dr. Ghobrial and Dr. Pettersson are the directors of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center.

Thank you so much for posting this video. It is encouraging to know that cardiac surgeons are recognising that myocardial bridge is not always benign and can cause debilitating symptoms.

Would you usually recommend unroofing for a patient with a small shallow bridge but who also has plaque and a very low IFR reading which was 0.69 to 0.72 with dobutamine but was also significant at rest ?

Had both HOCM surgery performed in 2015 by Dr. Smedira and myocardial bridge w/lima bypass by Dr. Pettersson. While I’m a survivor of both conditions I personally still struggle with symptoms that are from damaged endothelial cells after decades of being trapped in the myocardium. My question is if Bypass is discouraged then why did Dr. Pettersson proceed with both unroofing and LIMA bypass for me. I’m 61 years old in 1 week.

After unroofing do you need to be on beta blockers or other meds?

Hello, everyone. I’ve an myocardial bridge which is 15mm and complete. I’ve an CT Angiography. They said there is no blockage in vein and no meaningful narrow between systole and diastole. After that I’ve done Nuclear stress test. Nuclear stress test resulted, there is no problem with blood flow to my heart. But I’m still having symptoms. I’ve pressure on my left shoulder and there is a numbness on my left hand. Sometimes I feel, numbness on left side of my jaw. In a day life, when I stand and slow-walking, I feel painful pressure on my chest, 4-4.5 over 10. In addition to that, I feel dizzy while I’m standing. I’m a little fatigue in a day, can’t find energy to do exercises. I’m living in Istanbul/Turkey. I got contacted with one of the best cardiologist in Turkey and his name is Afksendiyos Kalangos. I showed my reports and he said not to worry about my myocardial bridge because reports show that, I’m not feeling these thing because of MB. But why I’m having these symptoms?

Would you say that someone with a myocardial bridge would be safe to take an mRNA vaccine? Or should onenopt for a different type of vaccine?
