I’ve done a low buy for 3 years. 2023 I bought one item all year and I didn’t even realise how little I had shopped as I still have so much. But Ive found myself actually using more make up as not overwhelmed by my collection and not always looking at what’s being realised. I watch a lot of content on project pans, duping the vibes, why you want need X product and I watch old vidoes featuring a pallet I already have. I watch your “one palette x amount of looks” vidoes all the time for inspo! Xx

Hi Kat! I was in a make up no buy for 5 years... and I still had tons of products after that!!!
🤣😂😂

This seems to be an even bigger intention this year than before in the beauty YouTube community. Very appropriate as a lot of us overconsumed beauty past few years. With you on this!

I needed this. I’m with you. My collection is shamefully large, mainly due to my wanting the ‘next best thing’ but also buying backups of things I use and like but end up moving onto the ‘next best thing’ by the time the one I’m using is done, or I’m bored. I’m breaking this nonsense this year.

Here is my tip. If I see something I really really want I go put it in my cart but I’m not allowed to purchase it until the next day. If I feel just as excited as I was the day before then I go ahead and buy it. 99.9 percent of the time I am not as excited the next day and end up not buying it. Most things people buy are impulse purchases. I watch way too many makeup videos and when I see a YouTuber get really excited about a product then it gets me excited and I really want to buy it. I’m not doing it anymore because I can’t afford it with the way the economy is now.

I'm going on a serious No Buy this year, in preparation for my husband making good on his threat to retire in May when he turns 62. I want to challenge myself to only buy replacements for items I use regularly, and stop being such an impulse buy crow, every time I see something shiny 🙈

Yeah, this is a great idea! I got into a COVID superbuy mode....need to definitely calm down and stop buying stuff I don't need!!! EDIT: as I'm reading more comments, I noticed a lot of people have been doing mindless buying the last couple of years. It's heartbreaking. I wonder why it's so commonplace?

I was doing really well for most of 2022, until Lisa Eldridge bought her eyeshadow palettes out and since then, I fell right back into my old habits. However I had also just got diagnosed with ADHD which was quite depressing & made things worse for a lot of last year. Now I have some medication which helps control my impulsive behaviours, & I'm learning new behaviours & coping techniques.
Plus, Kimberly Clarke is back doing a how to stop shopping in 5 easy steps! (My problem isn't just beauty products, or clothes etc it seems to be everything from tech to music😊). So hopefully, with yourself, Kimberly, and all these other supporting things, I should be able to go on a no-buy and actually start using & enjoying the things I have. 🤞🏻

What a great game plan ✨I have an insane amount of beauty products everywhere in the house. It’s been a while since I’ve done a no-buy being a sucker for a great deal also. Just panning isn’t enough. Let me join you in your quest for using up your stuff and saving some much needed extra cash

Totally with you and others on this. Maybe someone has mentioned it but everyone watch Kimberly Clark’s 5 steps to stop buying if you need help! I won’t run out of eyeshadows and blush for years and I definitely have a years worth of foundation and around three for lipsticks. And they are all the same colours… Its more impressive you are doing this as a YouTuber. More people need to show leadership in this area rather than continuing to peddle overconsumption. We can still love makeup, we don’t have to buy more.

I started a replacements only no buy for makeup and fragrance in about October, and I gave myself a quick break from it this month (mostly to replace my skin care I ran out of), and my goal is to go until my birthday in May. I have been performing more (which is when I use the most makeup), but I have so much stuff that I am not worried aout running out. My biggest issue is still eyeshadow, singles or palettes, which I hardly ever use. But swatching the pretty colors and the shiny and sparkly things make me so happy, so they aren't going to waste. I often find myself adding brow products, lip glosses, and mascaras to orders in order to reach free shipping because I can actually use those up pretty quickly, so I have way more than I need. I am also in a place where I will have no problem getting rid of things if they don't work. I used to make myself use something even if it was a pain to use (Catholic penance for buying it I suppose), now I will let it go if it is annoying.

I would definitely be interested in hearing how long your stock actually lasts compared to your estimates! I know even for more normal day to day items I can still underestimate how long stuff lasts so an update comparing nearer the end of your low buy could be really interesting (i also think hearing numbers is fun 🤓). Me and my eye primer that is never ending….

Sounds like you have such a good plan for your no-buy, which I think is the most important thing to ensure people stick to them. If my products aren't out in view, I forget what
I have in backups, so last year I wrote a list and stuck it on the back of my bedroom door to remind me of what I have and where to find it. It was very helpful in using up items!

Last year I went on a bit of a spending spree with buying new clothes, so I'm trying to declutter/donate/turn into rags some old things this year. I got 4 new pairs of PJs at Christmas
so last week went through my PJs and donated about 8 things to a charity. Felt really good to pull everything out and "check in" with myself as to whether I still liked the item or not,
and if I would wear them again.

I’ve done the same thing… stocked up on staples like lipgloss and Mascara while on sale in 2023 and not letting myself buy cosmetics until Sephora’s 20% off sale in April if I ‘need’ something… that’s just three months away and will allow me time to work my way through complexion products. I’ll save my haul spending spree for Black Friday after I’ve reached my personal savings goal for the year. My greatest weakness is skincare from YesStyle… the sale clocks and stackable coupons and rewards keeps me shopping again and again and I need to stop!!! ❤

I am on a makeup no buy (replacements only) 7+ years. I did one project pan, and while I was doing it I was not allowed to buy any makeup, and that is how my makeup no buy started. This year I am doing a toiletries no buy and I hope this will start RONB for all things cosmetics. We will see. In january so far I used up 6 products, and bought nothing.

I'm with you on this philosophy. Actually, I've been low buying since Black Friday 2023, which was very difficult lol. The compulsion to buy is so unhealthy that I even bought some clothes and then returned them, that is, for the simple pleasure of putting them in the shopping cart and receiving the order. When the compulsion strikes again, I will remember how bad it was having to return the items for the simple fact of having to go to the post office and not having time available. Now in 2023 I plan to buy and use what I already have, with the exception of the two glaminatrix rich romantic and nearly neutrals palettes that we will have this year. These are palettes that I've been wanting for a long time. After that, no more makeup and no more skincare, as I must have about 10 sunscreens in stock lol. For me, 10 eyeshadow palettes and the rest of the makeup I own is way more than enough. My money also doesn't allow me to throw it away when it expires.

I’m doing the same this year, my makeup & skincare is too much. I spent a fortune mindlessly purchasing, would love to spend that money on a holiday and take my 2 boys away abroad this year❤ We can do this!!xx

I started a complete replacement only no buy at the end of October 23. It's been going well so far. Not bought any makeup, but still had about 20 new items come into my collection through gifts and giveaways over X-mas. Not mad about it though. Am keen to really save some money and get some good use out of the things I own. I have enough product to get me through until the end of 2024 I think, at least. Good luck on your no buy!

I’m starting a low buy now as well. I just bought a car yesterday, so my car-payment-free years are gone now. I’m going to have to be very selective on what I buy. I’m going to try and switch to drug store brands on certain products once my higher end ones are used (like blushes, bronzers, lipstick). I refuse to give up buying my NARS foundation and ND palettes (will limit myself to just one this year, if it’s one I would actually use and I will wait for sales, not purchase on launch day).

Hi Kat!
I haven’t bought makeup since April’23. The only exceptions were ND Yucca and Oden’s Eye. I’m cutting out buying those brands as well this year. I keep my liquid and cream foundations in the refrigerator so they don’t go bad. That would be a waste of money.
I’m just over it all right now.
Now I have to do the same thing with fragrance. I’m 74…..I can’t possibly use everything I have before I die!😮
I just retired. I don’t even wear makeup every day anymore.
I still love watching all the videos and will continue. They make me happy. I can dupe any look I see with all the makeup I own.
I will always love makeup!
You are inspiring me today!💛💛
