This is the saddest, most realistic shit I’ve seen in a while.

The scene at the beach, where he cries in silence, a few steps of leaving everything behind and killing himself, is one of the most amazing actings I've seen in a while. It's all in his face: he will have an ideal life, but he will never meet happiness again. This guy is from another world.

One of the mysteries of life is that we tend to love someone that doesn't love us, and we reject and disparage those who do love us. We prefer to fantasize imaginary lifes that are unattainable to us, instead of just being happy with the ones that are devoted and faithful to us. We wish what we can't have. We can't be happy with what we posses. That's a mystery indeed to me. About the film, we may think that you have to be stupid for choosing a mentally unstable, junkie woman over a hard-working, devoted and stable one. But that's love. Sandra represents the future stability, the loving wife, the good mother, the certain life; but also the boredom, the tasteless life; Michelle, the adventure, the uncertainty, the joy, the unbridled passion, the colorful life; a life that could end any instant. Leonard chooses the last one, and there's no explanation to it, it's just what he desires from his inside. He's being possessed by the mysterious force of love. In the end, the last scene is so painful to watch. Pure resignation. He knows he won't find the purest form of happiness in his life. He'll have a committed, loving wife, and he may learn how to love her. But he won't reach the peak of happiness. Never.

That last scene was heartbreaking, because his eye were wide open when he was hugging her, he knew he will never be as happy with her. Poor dude

It is a gem, a wonder, how many times have i watched it....went to Tatiana when i first got to New York. PHOENIX is a genius❤ (watch him in Her) all those around him too. Marvellous part for Isabella...great, great time. And the operatic tune with the guitar, which turns an italian tune into a Chekhovian sad song...thank you for sharing🎉i am going to watch it again tonight, lets go to Little Odessa once more ❤
an italian tune

His loneliness/solitude is, in my eye, very aesthetic and beautiful. I have been there myself.

I am so IN LOVE with this movie ❤ . Well, I think that the end was " happy " . He was heavily depressed, suicidal and he had a lot of insecurities and problems . Being with Michelle would only make his problems even bigger . She was unstable and she couldn't control her own self or make the right choices . He needed someone like Sandra . She was loyal, giving, she knew exactly what she wanted from life and how to support him . And I believe he understood this in the end and he chose to marry her . What I've learned from personal experience ; Sometimes you have to learn to love what is good for your soul . Just being in love with someone doesn't make him/her the right one for you .

That initial cry he let's out has so much emotion. It was so intense.

I tend to view this film as a deconstruction of those rom-coms in which the lead chooses between "Stable But Boring" and "Wild and Exciting Moxie Pixie Dream Girl". What this movie explores is the notion that "boring" is needed. Stability doesn't have to be a dirty word when it comes to relationships.

Sandra is wAy better. She is matured, caring abd very sweet. Michelle is selfish and as she said, she's fucked up. But love is love. This is soo true. We love the ones who hurt us the most and not care about our feeling, while ignoring the ones who trully care and love us. It's like we take them for granted because we know that they'll always be there for us. All in all, I think that he might feel sad at the beginning because he's heartbroken, but as the time goes he knew he did the better decision by staying for Sandra. If he ends up with Michelle, the love spark would vanish due to their fucked up personalities. It's like pouring gasoline on the the fire. Very toxic and has a bad destination after all. Sometimes choosing the safe side is the good option, although I feel a litte bad for Sandra.

i saw this film before the joker and of course i knew JP from gladiator.. and after i saw his playing here i was thinking he maybe one of very fewest actors who can stand close to the previous generation stars like Al Pacino. he's amazing !!

this film is great.. all just on its point, great story, scripting, directing, acting, music, atmosphere.. everything is excellent !!

With Michelle Leonard felt completely free, free from families and their obligations, he was so comfortable with Michelle, let himself to dance in the night club and show us another Leonard, not the one who feels or looks burdened at home with parents, Leonard's world full of walls. Michelle came to his life from outside of his world, she had no connections with any people that he knew, Leonard immediately realized that this is what he wants deep inside, to experience true love with the freedom to be himself.

I remember very well my Two Lovers' screening, in november 2008. I was in tears at the end, so moved by the story, the characters, the music, the directing... And above all by Joaquin's acting (god he's so heartbreaking in this). I had already loved him thanks to movies like Gladiator and We Own the Night) but I've loved him even more since Two Lovers. People who seem to discover his greatness with Joker should watch this film and earlier ones to realise this guy has been one of the best comedians in the world for liké two decades.

Reminds me of Match Point
Going with the secondary, easiest choice knowing it won't make you as happy as the first one
