It's because the virtual machine is using a virtual graphics card which in the case is an S3. This is why it's called 'Virtual PC', because that's exactly what it is, It's a complete set of virtual hardware to make XP Mode work.

Of course I understand that the app used in the video is JUST an example, but running IE 6 is like running a virus magnet, i'm not using exaggeration. Thanks for the great video. You answered my questions. I want to run a non-internet application with it anyway so I wouldn't care if the internet didn't work.

It also has Space Cadet Pinball, which was taken out of later versions of Windows.

I see a few comments about gaming with XP Mode here. XP Mode was NOT intended for gaming. apart from the Pinball game which comes with XP Mode.

XP mode is only meant for running older Windows applications, which just refuse to run in Windows 7 directly.

That is great for security also. IE6 Works great this way as do all other applications.

right click the shortcut of the game you want to play > properties > compatibility mode > run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows xp (service pack 3)

I did exactly some steps but nothing appear in start menu of host win7
Perhaps it's because host OS is win7x64?

Yeah. If anyone was wondering how to get the old XP's MS Paint or WordPad, here's how to do it.

1) Copy the MS Paint from your Start Menu to your desktop.

2) Right-click on it and click properties.

3) Go to Find Target

4) There should be a file by the name mspaint.exe.

5) Copy that one instead of the shortcut to the "Open All Users" place.

Because for some reason, the shortcut to these files won't appear in the host's Start Menu.

Yes, this Windows XP mode is Intergrated in Windows 7 Ultimate and Professional, and if you still can't find it, download it off the official microsoft website, they host a download for it.

@coversinclosets It doesn't use you hardward ... it all virtual. So things like motherboards, network cards gpus are all virtual ones that have 100% compatability with the XP vm
