Loch Sionascaig in Sea Kayaks
Показать описание
Exploring the very remote Loch Sionascaig in a pair of Sea Kayaks, with Wild Camping on the island of Eilean Mor. The loch is challenging to access, typically involving crossing Loch Buine Moire, then a portage up over a saddle (along a very muddy path) and down into the main loch. Loch Sionascaig is quite large - about 5km by 4km - and we had it to ourselves for most of the time; we saw one fisherman on our second day. As far as we could tell, overnight we were about 5km from the nearest human being. The trip was in early June 2022.
Not many people go there in Sea Kayaks, open canoes are more typical. The kayaks have the advantage of being faster, so we could explore more of the loch in the time available. Of course, packing the kayaks with all the kit and provisions for wild camping is possibly more of a challenge than loading a canoe.
Music : Instrumental version of 'Oceans (Where feet may fail)', which starts with the words: 'You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown'.
