The 980 released at $550 in 2015. Which is about $710 today.

An MSRP best comparison would be the 4070ti vs 980. (Or 980ti which was $650 at release or $835 today)

Very interesting, as much as seeing GTX 980 vs RTx 4080 tested on i7-6700K from 2015 with DDR4 and compare how much top end cpu has added for gaming.

What I find a bit disappointing is that the games still look the same. If modern games can run on 10 year old hardware we're not getting the huge generational improvements we used to get where the new games looked drastically different and were doing things that would previously have been impossible

Also keep in mind guys: the GTX 980 had a 150W TDP. 4080 has a 335W TDP. It never really reaches its TDP limit because it's only running at 1080p but still.

I don't see much of a graphical improvement between the 2 cards, the numbers gap is huge but for the most part both games looked the same to my eye

Ah the 980. The card no one cared because this was also the last time Nvidia made a mistake by releasing a x70 card for charity and made the 980 owners look like idiots.... until people found out about the 3.5GB RAM-gate controversy.

My 1080 still manages to maintain 60fps more or less consistently in Elden Ring, but it's definitely coming close to the point where I need to upgrade.

This shows how insanely powerful and efficient the 4080 really is but it has bad price to performance, it should cost 699$ or 799$ at most not 1199$.

Consider the fact that most of those games are running over 30fps on 8 year old hardware, and that most PS5 releases are targeting 30fps

I had Gigabyte Windforce 980ti from 2016-2019. It stopped working all of a sudden. Took it to Canada Computers, they tested it and it unfortunately diededed.
Was great while it lasted.

Somehow 980 still sounds more premium than 4080. 4080 is like a joke compared to that king of the times
