WCML - Preston to Carlisle review ~ Train Sim World 5

Lots of people have asked for it, so here it is at last; my review of the WCML - Preston to Carlisle route in Train Sim World 5. This was the second TSW add-on developed by Just Trains, and is themed around British Rail in the 1980s again. This time, the star of the show is the Class 87 electric locomotive, but you also get a few diesels with the route as standard.

This is a long and well-detailed route running through some pleasant rural scenery (especially north of Carnforth), and there’s so much detail to the point where I struggle to wrap my head around it all. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that this is one of the best Train Sim World routes of all time.

This will be my last video before going to England and Wales; as such, I wanted to leave you all with a big (and mostly positive) video. While the video uploads will pause for at least three and a half weeks, I will try to maintain regular posts on my community tab (and reply to comments as often as I can).

JT WCML is proof that just because a route is long, doesn't mean it shouldn't be richly detailed.

I really liked this route, and I am really looking forward to the Class 86 (even if that comes after TSW6...'shrugs') I will certainly recommend it, as Just Trains and TSG are what keep this game going.
I also just played Zwolle-Groningen, and I wonder if ChrisTrains might do some Dutch rolling stock for TSW and future Dutch routes

7:00 the krokodile from mittenwaldbahn has amazing machine room detailing. With an interior camera angle inside it to see the moving parts that function as you use the throttle

We need to get this man to 20k subscriptions, because this video is excellent! Thank you so much for finally reviewing my favorite route, DC!

I was waiting for this review! WCML-OS is honestly my favourite DLC ever released for the game, especially as a huge follower of AC Electrics in real life (Both 86s and 87s were withdrawn from major passenger work when I was young, and some even carried on in secondary roles right up until 2021/2022). Some can still be found in charter operations today (86259/86101/86401/87002).

As for 3:01, At that time in history, the Heysham Branch was mothballed, from 1975 to 1987. As for Windermere, I have a feeling they may add it through rather a free update, or as a paid add-on in the future with some additional rolling stock (Maybe another first generation DMU for the route, such as a Class 105?). I genuinely can't wait for the Class 86, and the railscene is fantastic with all of the DLCs you mentioned! I purchased all of them just for the best experience.

Looking forward to what you will think of both the 86s and the MK2 Aircons that are coming with it, I know you lot over in NZ had the pleasure of many of them second hand from us, They're still semi common to see over here today, even more so since a major legal battle over central door locking has put Railtour Company West Coast Railways' entire MK1 fleet out of action.

Along with Blackpool Branches, JTs WCML is definitely up there in terms of quality, though sadly i'm one of the fools that bought it at full price, I think?

Didnt even notice all the extras such as the numerous modelled jnteriors at all stations/most signal boxes! Will have to go exploring!

Suprised the Pacer wasnt actually included with the route, being layered from Blackpool.

And finally, the episode you are thinking of regarding the weathered 08 is 'Fustercluck' of Season 6.

I was wondering if you were going to do a review on this. Better late than never. 🤣👏🏽👏🏽

At 16:13 the shop for some reason has all of its text in Dutch. For anyone interested, it says "Surprise your Valentine ... and yourself!", and "Free gift, when spending more than 15 euros.".

Regarding the Windermere branch, absent, JT had said they didn't really provide much gameplay opportunities, which is why they did the morecambe branch instead.

Another cracking review as always. Ive revently picked the route myself as i wanted to explore Carlisle and Penrith given the fact I live relatively close to them in Cumbria, being Whitehaven.

About 20 Mins away from Whitehaven is Workington, a town that has a staple in history in being THE major supplier that made thr majority of the rails that our trains run on today. Worth a read up by the way😁

Nice video. Didn't realise DTG was still doing their annual festival of fail. Then again narcissists generally can't read the room. Glad that you mentioned the stuttering. It's the one major flaw introduced by DTG in TSW3 that they insist on carrying forward every year. Given the quality of Just Trains routes, I feel like the hobby would have been in much better hands had the core sim been developed or taken over by them. With their experience in flight simulation I'll bet they would have had a much more open platform too allowing for all kinds of freeware and payware add-ons. DTG is far too greedy and close minded to be taken seriously in the simulation genre. Happy holiday and safe travels.

Hands down, its the single best route add on we have for TSW ans im saying that as a german player. The amount of detail and love for the really tiny bits is what makes this route so outstanding. Again JT literally got the extra mile here. Its a Statement.

You were absolutley correct when saying that WCMLoS puts mopst TSW Routes to shame. The even higher Price for normal TSW Routes now feels even more unjustified given the sheer amount of work that was put in here. Looking at Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn with its prcetag, how can you possibly paying that without feeling ripped.

I hope JT continues to make routes set in this time period. I think the Tyne Valley line would be nice.

The new horn and sounds you mentioned are actually from a sound mod for the class 101 that you can find on train sim community website and the normal horn without the mod is the exact same from northern trans penine
