I grew up in multicultural Australia where this kind of music at the time had a massive appeal to a youth segment that kind of tried to be the Afro Americans of downunder. Lots of Anglo indians, coloured South Africans, Mauritians, Pacific Islanders and even South Americans all jammed to this style of music.
