In this video we take a look at Installing InfluxDB and Grafana with Home Assistant, giving you access to next level data logging, statistics and analytics so that you can retain your Home Assistant sensor data for longer, allowing you to do long term visualization and graphing of your data to view trends. We go through how to install InfluxDB and Grafana, the difference between InfluxDB and MariaDB and we also create a couple of basic graphs inside Grafana.

Hi Lewis, honestly? I installed InfluxDB about two months ago and I got stuck on something and I didn’t get back to it it. But thanks to this video I’m going to finish that up now and I’m sure it will take me no time thanks to you. Thanks so much for amazing content!

FYI to hover over any part of the graph and see the displayed data (instead of hovering over each point)
Panel > Display > tooltip mode > all
Took me a while but I finally found it. That also bugged me before.

Thank you for the tutorial, so much faster to watch an easy to follow work-through than trying to figure it on my own!

Thanks! Tonight, I used this and your related video to setup both influxdb and mariadb with 372 day retention. I guess I'll have to use them to watch my free disk space, now ;) I figured out how to embed Grafana graphs directly in a Lovelace dashboard, but tonight I also found the Plotly Graph Card (HACS) which I think I'll love. I've been using the apexcharts-card (HACS) and like it a lot.

I have finally taken the plunge, energy prices and all (and uncontrollable geek traits). Great tutorial once again. Will be interesting to see how my dashboards turn out in a few months. One thing I have done from the start is used the Include parameter so I can control exactly what goes into the db and keep it small. A lot of work initially but probably worth it.

Did you notice that CPU stopped recording once you added the alias? I have the same problem and not yet worked out what the problem is…

Great video! Thank you.
Can I do a query to measure how long time a switch was "on"?

Is it possible to change the time range directly from the dashboard? I mean, change the graphics interactively in real time.

I would like to plot the status and target temperature of a thermostat, but it looks like those entities are not exported to influx. Is there a way to add them? Thanks

Looks nice. Is it possible to make a magic mirror using grafana or a similar way? And to display basic things like time, temp and humidity for example and to get some controls like lights switches with a swipe or a double tap?
