Sorry for the creepy music. This was originally posted as a Halloween episode.

As an American, it seems absolutely crazy to me that the British literally know where monarchs that died over a thousand years ago are buried. It's honestly pretty incredible.

I'm happy to see Matilda included. She's overlooked a lot. Thanks, Happy Halloween!

King Harold Godwinesson's bones were apparently lost from Waltham Abbey during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Some historians think they may never have been there, but instead buried quietly in Bosham Church, Sussex, part of his old estates, by his mother Gytha, with tacit permission of William I. If true, they are still there, in a tomb under the chancel arch which was opened in the 1950s, before DNA was known about. The church is still mainly of Saxon fabric. Attempts in the 1990s to have the tomb reopened to take samples were refused by the Church Commissioners on grounds that no definite known descendants could be identified. However, Harold's sister Edith was Edward the Confessor's queen, and she is buried next to Edward in Westminster Abbey. I would think her remains might show whether or not the Bosham bones were those of her brother Harold. Another royal connection is that a tomb next to the possible Harold tomb is said to be of King Cnut's young daughter, who drowned in the nearby millstream.

Why is Æthelstan's tomb now empty? Where are the remains?
The bones of some others were stolen in the French Revolution - Were they ever found, have any been located?
Is there anyway of finding out which Kings were buried where at Glastonbury Abbey?

Honestly was saddened not to see Alfred the Great there, I know he was never king of all of England, but he began the process of taking over the ancient kingdoms, his son finally united them yes, but it was Alfred who began it, hence why he is affectionately called "the first King of England"

I've seen the tombs of Henry IV, Edward II and the Saxon kings at Winchester, and the interesting thing about those ones is apparently the bones have been scattered around the different coffins over hundreds of years, so no-one can tell who is who inside each one anymore.

Queen Victoria had her tomb effigy made at the time she had the one made for Albert even though she out lived him 40 years. They are forever young and beautiful together. ❤️❤️❤️

How did they choose whom to bury under the floor, and whom to make a beautiful tomb with a statue? ><

It would be awesome if you did a vlog series where you visit these monarch’s burial sites. I would totally watch! It would also be interesting for a mini series?
