A Compact Bible That’s Just Right?

The NKJV and KJV Compact Center-Column Reference Bibles from Thomas Nelson are just slightly larger than the Maclaren Compact, and slightly smaller than their personal sized offerings. They give you a slightly larger print than most compacts, but still fit easily in a bag or a purse.

Is it too big? Is it too small? Or is it just right? Check out this video. The links below are Amazon Affiliate, but I’m sure there are better prices on Christian Book or Church Source. Make sure and check there.

Got the KJV one pre-ordered so will be recreating this comparison alongside my Sovereign and Maclaren, the latter of which I absolutely adore. One thing I noted from your useful overview is that the gutter isn’t too tight—the Maclaren also gets this right, but it really lets the otherwise excellent Sovereign down.

Thomas Nelson continues to impress me with their offerings.. Thanks for your video! Oh, I'm glad you weren't wearing your Goldilocks wig. I was a little concerned...🙃😉😁

I have an older Thomas Nelson KJV “model” 2005, copyright 1989, mine printed in the mid 90’s that I got for my first day of High School. I think it’s the best version of a personal size reference KJV that TN made. It’s got the look of the new compact center-column reference, but it also has book introductions, the same ones they use in the Sovereign. I wish they’d bring this model back, with modern fonts, maps, line-matching, etc. I think it would do very well.

It’s hard to find pictures, but there are a couple videos on here that show off this Bible.

Mine was special, and I splurged to have mine rebound, and I’ll have at least another 3 decades of use ahead of me, if not more.

You ever considered getting Josephus Collection from Thomas Nelson? It has a great and interesting study aspect because it gives the perspective of the Pharisees during the time of Jesus on the Old Testament.

Yeah, it looks like it's a modern version of the old Royal Reference Bible. I **love** the size. I love the feel of it in my hand. It's absolutely perfect the way that it lays in your hand. But I think the 8pt font is a bit too small for me (at least for reading sessions longer than a half hour or so), and the more I read from mine, the more printing non-uniformity I'm seeing. I think there's still some growing pains with this new printer from India that Thomas Nelson is using. I remember that people complained about the printing errors in the NKJV Sovereign wide margin last year with the indian printer, although I got lucky with my copy in that it was fine. But this one has bold pages followed by not so bold pages, and while the red letter is good, sometimes it's darker than other times. There's less consistency here than with the Chinese printed Bibles, but it could just be some growing pains. The leather and the construction seems great at least.

Looks like Nelson did something good here. I prefer the classic 2 column center reference layout. Would you say these are the size of a Cambridge Concord? Were these made in China or India? The WM Sovereigns I got from India had a ton of quality control problems, particularly with the print.

Is that the 36 GSM paper they use in the verse by verse Bibles?

Do you notice any difference in the paper or guilding between the genuine leather and leather soft? Looking for a good rebind candidate so the cover doesn’t matter to me.

I like the size! How does it compare to the Clarion? I imagine it’s a bit taller and thinner

Hello Mr. Tim Nichols, can you do a video on atlases for bibles? Like books that contain maps of the land according to the bible.

I really enjoy your videos and im very grateful to have found your channel. I wish you the best.
