Firstly you need a pair. And you can't force that. If you have a pair, they're quite easy to trigger. In this tank a cool water change will do it. A low TDS water change will also do it. They need to be well fed too. But if you have high bacteria or a parasite issues you will never trigger them. This is more important than any water quality parameter. So you can have pristine water test results but they may still not be happy. Sort that out and they're quite easy to trigger. The next part is the difficult bit.
