Astrology in the White House: Reagan and the Astrologers

Показать описание
Ronald Reagan's used astrology in the White House throughout his presidency, and his interactions with astrologers date back to the 1960s.
In 1988 Donald Regan's book revealed the Reagans reliance on astrology, causing a media sensation and forcing the White House to acknowledge its use for scheduling.
The astrologer Joan Quigley was identified as the Reagan's astrologer and later published her own account of the work she did for them.
Quigley worked with the Reagans intermittently from 1973 to 1988, with increased involvement after the assassination attempt in 1981.
Quigley advised on dates for numerous events, including speeches, trips, negotiations, and even Nancy Reagan's surgery.
Contrary to the common narrative, the Reagans consulted astrologers before the 1981 assassination attempt.
The Reagans were friends with the astrologer Carroll Righter in the 1960s, and in Reagan’s 1965 autobiography he says that he and Nancy read Righter’s horoscope column every day.
The Reagans may have used astrology for Ronald Reagan's inauguration as governor of California in 1967, which took place just after midnight on January 2, 1967.
The extent to which Ronald Reagan personally believed in astrology is still often downplayed in many sources, resulting from successful damage control efforts in the late 80s that sought to blame his wife Nancy for the role of astrology in the White House.
However, Reagan’s long standing interactions with astrologers and use of astrology even prior to his presidency demonstrate that he did in fact believe that it was a legitimate subject that was worth taking seriously.
