Come with us inside the workshop of Meanwhile in the Garage, where an ordinary Yamaha YZF1000 R1 undergoes a groundbreaking transformation. The goal? To turn this high-performance sports bike into a fully weather-protected machine capable of handling rainy conditions without sacrificing its aerodynamics or speed. Follow along as the creator, a former aerospace engineer with a passion for mechanics, tackles this complex challenge. You'll see every step of the process, from building the custom polycarbonate cockpit to modifying key components like the rearview mirrors for a perfect fit. This isn't just about aesthetics—it's about engineering innovation, where performance meets practicality, pushing the limits of what a motorcycle can do.

As a long time rider there are several things I can point out as... not well thought out imo.
1) a strong sideways wind blast, like when a tractor trailer passes by, is going to be very dangerous in that.
2) it doesn't protect your legs which get absolutely soaked if you're not wearing rain gear.
3) at a stoplight, it'll be a pita to stand up
4) it doesn't protect from road spray or any water coming upward or off the wheels
5) rain suits are dirt cheap, quick to remove and store easily in a backpack or saddle bags.
That's just a quick list, I'm sure others will point out even more flaws.

Nice. What do we learn? You need wipers😂

Next thing they will have one of these with 4 tires, maybe some doors and an engine in the front....we are looking at the future people!

As a manufacturing engineer, I enjoyed every minute of that video. As a motorcyclist my left eyebrow raised a bit.

Learned 2 things from this video.
1) having a full nice shop of tools doesn't mean much without skills to use them
2) you can waste a lot of time thinking you can do better than a rain suite.

Whether other folks like it or not, but you showed great engineering skills bro.
Appreciate your idea & this masterpiece you built independently.

Honestly I am no engineer or have no experience in building a motorcycle. I have to say this was very very inspiring to watch. The dedication and the passion is so evident, the design is fabulous, building something so spectacular is worth applauding. Great job done! Please continue doing the amazing work and don’t stop.

In my opinion (as a +15 years rider), whom built, customized and owned a lot of bikes, and still daily riding a fully restored R1 RN12, I can tell I hate rain! I avoid riding in rain, simply because I don't like having my bike dirty and nasty after. So, this is a very nice idea, to have a cover to protect you from the rain, but, this is just a wet protection solution. Cause the main issue is the water on the road, not the rain itself falling on me or the bike. And this shell, isn't protecting me or anyone else NOT to slip/slide/fall in bad rainy weather... it protects you from getting wet :)) BUT, all this aside, it is a very nice construct, well done, looks amazing. Great work!

As a motorcyclist, I would like to highlight points that should be considered. First, in the event of an accident, the chances of survival will be very low due to the presence of this glass. Secondly, you cannot stop suddenly and you will find it difficult to deal with the brakes or stop completely.
Thirdly, you cannot have another person ride with you. I think a rain jacket for bicycles would be less expensive and more effective. Thank you. ❤

The enjoyment of riding a bike is to feel the wind, rain, sunshine and all the shits that come with it.

The project cannot be taken seriously. But the effort to have fun was worth it. Good craftsmen

The motorcycle canopy idea has been done before, and there are a lot of reasons it’s been abandoned. Despite material choices, the canopy appears to be negatively impacting weight distribution and center of gravity. Also, without a wiper, you’re going to need a lot of rain-x, and without a full defrost/defog hvac system, it’s going to fog up. Even worse, with the bottom open, at even moderate highway speeds in heavy rain, you’ll have a lot of road spray moisture deflected up in to the openings at the bottom. Finally, you still have to deal with a helmet, but now you’re dealing with a helmet and a canopy, which introduces reflections and distortions (and again, no wiper).

Turbulence and crosswinds seem to be making the bike difficult to control.😊
