Friends of mine had a cake tasting platter rather than a big, traditional style offering and it was great. It covered all sorts of options and meant it actually got eaten, while still providing an impressive centrepiece to the meal

Hi Grace! Long time viewer, first time commenter.
I got married last year, and had the same concern that guests wouldn't eat the cake. We ended up going for a small centrepiece Victoria sponge with several flavours of cupcake and the guests devoured them within minutes of cutting the cake, because cupcakes are easier to just grab and eat - people feel weird about cutting and eating a slice of a bigger cake.
My husband and I are both vegan and had a fully vegan wedding but even that didn't put our 100 guests off eating the cupcakes.

Can't wait to see more wedding planning, it really is the most exciting time of your life 💗

spring = lemon drizzle 🍋
summer = victoria sponge 🍓
autumn = carrot cake or coffee cake 🥕

I married way way back in 1985 - I had three tiers and a fantastic local baker. She was amazing and was recommended from friends. Bottom tier was fruit cake, second tier was Victoria sponge and the top tier was carrot cake (my favourite, even back then) Complete with flower decorations and cake pillars matching my 'wedding theme' - A perfect wedding cake was for made for me... I did it way before the internet and you can too.

Hi Grace! I baked my friend's wedding cake. It was 4 tiers (2 Victoria sponge, a lemon and poppyseed and a chocolate at the bottom). The chocolate cake was the chocolate wedding cake recipe on BBC good food. It is the BEST chocolate cake I've ever made and I had absolutely everyone at the wedding telling me how much they loved it. I recommend trying the recipe.

Grace I love these videos so much! If I may, I'd like to offer a thought on your super generous and kind expectations of your wedding day (that other people enjoy it); this day is all about YOU and your soon-to-be husband, not anyone else. This is your day with him. It's so lovely that you want to make others happy but please allow yourself to be at least a bit "selfish". You deserve to have the day of your dreams.

Totally agree about the styrofoam nonsense! My mom was a wedding planner and told me that some bakers do that. I was shocked 😳 and disappointed honestly! I’m a pastry cook and every wedding cake I’ve made has been 100% edible. My latest was supposedly all eaten! I think people appreciate cakes more nowadays since they’re usually a higher quality

Don't worry about other people's opinions of your choices. This will forever and only be yours and your fiancé's special day!
And thanks for the cake content for us non-tiktokers! Sweet!

Yay wedding content...not surprised you started with wedding cake. At my friend's wedding the cake had some sort of issue because the fondant (eww) wouldn't stay on the cake and when it was cut it just rolled up. My friend was mortified but now it's a funny story she likes to tell. That is one thing that I've learned over years of going to weddings, it often the little oops that make the wedding stand out!

I know a couple who actually had a variety of cakes, from cupcakes to French fancies, Swiss roles, cookies and fruit as their weeding reception food. They had juice and shloer too. It worked really well from them. I always thought that the top tier of the wedding cake was actually kept by the bride and groom/ frozen and eaten on their first anniversary. I think it had some symbolic meaning

We had a very small traditional looking cake, and besides that we asked some people who we know love to bake to bake something to bring to the wedding (instead of a gift). We ended up with brownies, cupcakes etc. and everyone loved it! We were broke when we got married 4 years ago so we had to keep it simple and we were so thankful that people were willing to bake something :)

for our wedding we had a croquembouche, so the caramel vanilla and pistachio profitrolle tower tiered on top of the Russian honey cake. Honey cake is basically numerous super thin honey biscuit layers with creme fraiche in between
what a next day breakfast it was❤️ fav wedding memory lol

Me and my lovely husband got married in November, and there is still wedding cake in the freezer! Our issue was the venue handing out tiny slivers of cake. Make sure you specifically tell them to give out generous portions. Also have the most amazing day, it's honestly awesome ❤️

I made a war time chocolate biscuit/fridge cake for a 1940s party. Queen Elizabeth was such a fan, she apparently had it every afternoon. Her love for the cake evidently passed onto Prince William who had it as a “grooms cake”.

Never heard of fridge cake before but it remains me of a square recipe that I love to make with a pink buttercream icing instead of chocolate on top "arrowroot bars"
