I feel the bailing corn stalks on a field used to grow feed/food is short sighted as you lose the mulch effect and compost value of the stalks thus getting less yields the next yr without added water and fertilizer which will likely cost more than the bails, unless the corn stalks end up back on the field after use. i guess it depends on the final location of the stalks

11 bales on 1.5 acres is quite insane.... Down south we've got about 1.5 inches over the last 90 days, were lucky to make 2 bales an acre

We used 1 row picker sheller and run a 1 row 708 chopper we use stalks as filler save on buying cotton seed and you can use it for bedding if u want

I have wanted to make corn silage marshmallows but my buddy doesn’t think the stalks are chewed up enough to get picked up by the round baler. You are taking the ears the harvester chops up the stalk?

You don't ever do this you burn it for added nutrients for next year crop to increase the carbon content in the soil and then add cow manure and till it in one week before seeding.

Do yourself a favor, put manure from your livestock back on that field. Otherwise you’re robing the nutrients.

Monitor, of course it’s easy. Try it without one on an older baler.

Stop doing this immediately if u need bedding find a sawmill for sawdust or tree co for woodchips.... soil microbes are your future trillions per sq inch it should be u might not have many left
