►LYRICS - Red Headed Stranger
A red headed stranger from Blue Rock, Montana
He rode into town one day
And under his knees was a raging black stallion
An' walkin' behind was a bay

The red headed stranger had eyes like thunder
His lips they were sad and tight
His little lost love lay asleep on the hillside
And his heart was heavy as night

Don't cross him, don't boss him
He's wild in his sorrow
He's ridin' and hidin' his pain
Don't fight him, don't spite him
Let's wait till tomorrow
And maybe he'll ride on again

A yellow haired lady looked out of her window
And watched as he passed her way
She drew back in fear at the sight of the stallion
But cast greedy eyes on the bay

How could she know that this dancing bay pony
It meant more to him than life
This was the horse that his little lost darlin'
Had ridden when she was his wife

Don't cross him, don't boss him
He's wild in his sorrow
He's ridin' and hidin' his pain
Don't fight him, don't spite him
Let's wait till tomorrow
And maybe he'll ride on again

The yellow haired lady went down to the tavern
And looked up the stranger there
He bought her a drink and he gave her some money
He just didn't seem to care

She followed him out as he saddled the stallion
And laughed as she grabbed at the bay
He shot her so quick they had no time to warn her
She never heard anyone say

Don't cross him, don't boss him
He's wild in his sorrow
He's ridin' and hidin' his pain
Don't fight him, don't spite him
Let's wait till tomorrow
And maybe he'll ride on again

The yellow haired lady was buried at sunset
The stranger went free of course
You can't hang a man for killin' a woman
Who's tryin' to steal your horse

So this is the tale of the red headed stranger
And if he should pass your way
Stay out of the path of the raging black stallion
And don't lay a hand on the bay

Don't cross him, don't boss him
He's wild in his sorrow
He's ridin' and hidin' his pain
Don't fight him, don't spite him
Let's wait till tomorrow
And maybe he'll ride on again

Don't fight him, don't spite him
Let's wait till tomorrow
And maybe he'll ride on again

Just watching Julianne's reaction to the "You can't hang a man for shooting a woman..." verse is worth the price of admission!😅

Had the pleasure of meeting The Petersens in Wilson, NC. Not only was I in awe the whole time they played, meeting them was an even more pleasure. All of them took time to talk. They are as down to Earth and humble as they seem in their videos. You just don't get that from a majority of the groups out there. I am a fan for life.

Talking with Ellen was like talking to an old friend. Julianne was so sweet and seemed shy. Matt is a hoot. Katie was such a pleasure to talk to, and mama....well, I felt like I knew her my whole life. I could talk to her for hours. Didn't get a chance to speak with Emmet but Jon, the dad, is a really nice noble guy. Thank you for your service to our country sir!! God Bless the Petersens!!

It's one thing to master an instrument, but to be able to sing like that as well? Emmet is a superstar and that's no hyperbole.

Such a mature, classy family. They stand out so much in this corrupt and immoral modern world. Thank you guys for what you do.

American roots music!!
The violence of this story is overpowered by beauty. The musical beauty, the spiritual beauty that emanates from this group and finally the natural beauty of all its members.
