I Took Family Portraits on a 60 Year Old Film Camera - Ilford Hp5 - This has been something I have wanted to do for a while and I thought documenting the process would be nice to have for memories and also enjoyable to watch for you. Hopefully it was haha I am pretty happy with how the portraits turned out and It was cool to try out another film on medium format. Portraits aren't something I have done a lot of but It was nice to mix things up a little and I definitely learned some stuff from this one.

the actual video is breathtaking... almost more than the beautiful photos. The yellow green grass, red-white dress, yellow trees, clear sky. Looks almost fake it's so pretty.

Something a little different but we made some photos that will be nice to look back on and it's also fun to try something different from time to time. Hope you enjoyed following along 🙂

10:33 The fact you were both certain you had nailed focus on the eye suggests the ground glass screen in your camera might not be in exactly the right position. The viewing lens to mat side of the GG has to match the distance from the taking lens to film plane distance exactly, I've just re-calibrated my Mamilya TLR after replacing the ground glass and it isn't that hard to do, thanks to a bit of googling on the method. If you attempt it check for accuracy with close distance focus and infinity at widest aperture. Your portraits came out well, I'm sure your subjects were pleased with them.

Such lovely portraits guys 👏 for me it’s so important to make pictures of your loved ones. The light was banging outside as well! Cool to see you in Portugal now?! My wife and I are thinking of traveling there in a month or 2 so I’m excited for your next videos!

Very, very nice portraits!

My only comment would be that you seem to be choosing much wider aperture and faster shutter than necessary, giving you a very narrow DoF. For portraits with that 80mm lens, 1/125 second is perfectly viable handheld. With a tripod and a cooperative subject, you can easily do 1/30 or even 1/15 second. This will give you much greater DoF and easier focusing. Since both of you had the same focusing problem on the indoor shots, it's possible the ground glass is not at the same distance as the film plain (unless the subjects moved just a little bit). This disagreement will be MUCH more evident at the close distance compared to the longer outdoor shots. It's easily fixed by pretty much any camera repair person.

Hp 5 is the worst of three for ne. Foma is really sharp and grainless if you develop with Fomadon Excel developer
