It's a very common house rule. Whenever you pay any kind of fine or tax, the money goes into a pool, and is given to whoever lands on the free parking space. It's not in the default ruleset, but in the game they're playing, it's an option you can choose when creating a game.

Also, though not related to the topic of the video per-se, many of the properties in the game are indeed named after locations in Atlantic City, New Jersey

So Fauna was raised on a caring, relaxed "Everyone is a winner if they have fun"
Gura was raised to stand above others and impress the fear of the Lord on them

I play with 500 in the middle and we also pay taxes in the middle too

There’s a setting in this game to make that rule apply. And it’s not just a bunch of money. It’s a pool of money lost to taxes and chance/chest cards throughout the game. The pot resets everytime someone lands on it. So if you land on it immediately after somebody else, you get nothing

The "house rule" that money collected by community chest is stored under free parking and is collected by whoever lands there, causes the game to go on indefinitely-- the purpose of random event cards is to remove money from the economy so players go broke and the last solvent player can be the winner.

to be honest, when growing up, we made a rule for every luxury tax, community chest fee, or chance fee (penalties), we would put it in the middle of the board instead of putting it in the bank. Whoever would land on Free Parking would get that money. lol.

Ina outro is outerworldly cuteness. She's tries so much not to Cringe internally it's pretty wholesome.

Video title: "I realized my childhood was a lie"
Subtitle: "I've realized my childhood was a lie"
What Fauna actually said: "I'm realizing my childhood was a lie"

I do wonder who invented the free parking rule, because it's everywhere.

My family had a different house rule to keep things from dragging out. Only once all the properties have been bought, are taxes then put into the middle, and only a person with a monopoly could collect from landing on free parking. Hilariously imbalanced if the players without monopolies don't cooperate and trade in order to get access to the free parking perk, but it gets the game to end quickly either way.

I don't think its Fauna's childhood that's a lie, It's the other girls lol. Everyone I knew played with that house rule of taxes in the middle.

Btw about what Kiara was saying at first: Monopoly is supposed to be based on Atlantic City. The street names aren’t real, but that’s why “Boardwalk” is such a big space.

I was once around a friends house and they had a house rule that when you roll 3 doubles instead of going to jail you win the game...
I was like to my friend "Ummm, That's not a rule..." I could visibly see his parents start sweating.

My family always played with the rule that tax/chance/community chest went to pool and the pool started with 500 in it. When someone got it the pool got 500 immediately

I like that whistle noise Ina made trying to suppress a laugh

Monopoly might be the game with the most "fake" rules in existence. Rules that just came to be somehow and everyone you played with just took them for granted. Kinda fascinating in a way.

Dont worry fauna, I was also this year's year old when I realized Free Parking literally doesn't do anything and it felt like I lived in a lie.

When I was a kid, like maybe 6 or 7 we would play with rules like that, because apparently I was a really salty kid and hated loosing and my parents didn't want to have me "ruin" game night lol. Anyway it wasn't until I grew older and played with some friends when I found out, I got my karma when my friends laughed at me XD
