As we discuss TIS, it's important to also recognize that teachers/staff may have a history of trauma as well. The beauty of true trauma informed practices is that it holds space for teachers and students. It's a cultural shift.

I’m so very grateful!!!
I suffered severe neglect and trauma as a child!!
I absolutely could not learn when my father yelled at me because I didn’t get it!
I fully shut down every time!
It takes a very strong character who is determined to NOT let their family totally ruin their lives!!
Because of alcohol disease that started before birth, I struggled with multiple LD’s. Though back then they had no idea what a learning disability was.
They told my mom that it was not worth trying to teach me 🤨🤨🤨🤨
When I got to college age, I did what I wanted to do and forced my brain to learn!
I copied my notes three times to get it into my brain!
I knew that I had a lot to contribute and I knew that it was up to me and only me!
Strange A’s in college!

That’s just the educational piece!!!
Childhood abuse and neglect are the underlying factors for our society Ills 😑
Thanks for helping young people have a much better chance than I

Trauma is very serious in children. As teachers, it’s important to understand how the child is feeling to make them feel safe. Since children experienced things in their life that they seen before such as abuse, death in their family, etc. Intentionally, children act out, such as pushing, and hitting. So children think it’s okay to hit or push someone. And time out doesn’t work, it makes it worse for the child. It’s different ways to cope and strategize with the child such as, I know you’re feeling angry or sad, how can I help you. I will definitely cope with the child by taking deep breaths. I’m an assistant teacher, so I see this happen in toddlers and preschoolers.

love these videos, important to remember these children are children and should be allowed to express and feel comfortable, not always about the results in education, but making them feel good in order for them to progress.
