Some of us in the Unites States are committed to human rights. Far too many are committed to the extension of entrenched privileges. Take the most fundamental of our human rights; our equal birthright in the planet as a commons. Our system of property law originated in the Old World system of landed privilege. The result today is that the control land and natural resources (in the U.S. as well as other countries) is highly concentrated within a rentier elite. As Thomas Paine argued in "Agrarian Justice, " every person who controls land owes to the community its ground rent value for this privilege.
