The trial is underway for a former Aurora Police officer accused of witnessing and not intervening when another now-former officer pistol-whipped and strangled a man with an outstanding warrant.

Francine Martinez was fired from the Aurora Police Department (APD) and is charged with two misdemeanor counts of failure to intervene and failure to report use of force. Her trial began Wednesday morning in Arapahoe County.

In July 2021, Martinez and John Haubert responded to a trespassing call in the 3100 block of South Parker Road. While responding to that call, the officers encountered Kyle Vinson, who had an active warrant out for his arrest.

There’s no way that a rational human being can watch the arrest video, and think that it is OK

Both officers deserve to be in prison. We don’t need this kind of policing.

When one person in a group commits a crime, they all get charged. This blue gang member should have the same charges as the guy commiting in the assault.

This was a horrible defense. She would have been better off saying she was scared of the male cop. She had every tool within reach to be a hero in this situation.

Both officers need to be fired have their licenses and qualified immunity revoked and jailed. Further more they should be open to civil lawsuits from the victim of this crime that was perpetrated by both officers.
