The very fact that we get different thoughts is the proof that one thought ends and another thought begins. And we remain the same through these changing thoughts. I have not been able to observe the exact point when a new thought takes over. And that is the mystery for me. And if a new thought is not able to take over me involuntarily then it is over but I am not sure if it happens. And the awareness that we are lost in thought may not be a thought and this is sporadic with me right now and probably it is much frequent in some people I am not sure. My take is if you keep observing the thought stream and do nothing(which is arduous) at some point the steam runs out and the conditioning ends and you are free but I am not sure.
