As a member of the Louisiana Air National Guard when Katrina hit in 2005, I found that running water and operating sewage system are necessary for the quality of life when all that people have is destroyed. Power is needed for those services. We deployed generators to shelters and water utilities and this had a very positive impact for the residents of the community. I am glad Governor DeSantis and the Office of Emergency Management are performing pre-emptive measures to ensure the resources are in place well before the storm. In contrast, the Louisiana national guard was activated hours before tropical storm force winds affected the area making it difficult/impossible to reach the predetermined staging locations. Thank you, Governor.

Heavy rain brings increased sinkhole development - don't drive through flooded roads because they may hide a sinkhole, and of course dangerous animals like crocodiles, alligators, and snakes.

As of 9:30 a.m, Largo now has heavy rain and some wind.
My power almost went out twice.
The main thing I worry about is the power being off.
I have severe asthma and need breathing treatments 3-4 times a day.
Prayers to everyone, especially where the hurricane will impact.
