Misinterpretation = the brothel was intended to be established in California, but settled in Santa Fe as the Madam had enough of the dangers of travelling.

Post modernism has a lot to answer for regarding how it's affected your perspective. Is your perspective more virtuous than that of Fraser's? That's rhetorical. The title is because that's what the "darling Redskins" were called by people of the 19th century. Well, other names as well, but we won't go there - unless you want to. As Fraser said "Kit Carson did not refer to Native Americans". Fraser sets the stage on attitudes right at the start with the anthropologist in the Reform Club in London. That should have some reflection in your analysis as it juxtapositions liberal vs pragmatic attitudes on the winning of the American West.
