I mix and master tracks for clients around the world. I found that now that I do very little in mixing and even less in mastering, my sound is faaarrr bigger, cleaner and better . Sometimes I don't even EQ or compress a sound. I just leave it

I agree, I'm mostly mastering the projects where budget is very low and I already mixed, so I charge for a bundle. In that case I bounce the mix and ask for opinions that o Trust, listen to the refs and volume up, if I compress is mostly for the flavor of some specific style or something like that, but I used to fill all the plug-in slots in Pro Tools when I started.

I manager to get some Mastering chain console presets from this company, and one of them was Low Cut > Limiter. I a knob tweaker, it's hard not to turn knobs when its not needed. Great advice, thanks.

Record it correctly and you won't NEED all the 'fixing'.

Sometimes sending it back means a whole new mix comes in. They do what they think you asked but start over-finessing other stuff that makes the change nonsense.

This happens 10% of the time. That I don’t need to do anything, just get the levels right. 90% I have to tweak.. is like finishing the last stage of mixing and then mastering 😬
