So late last year, Games Workshop unveiled their newest version of "Kill Team", a smaller-scale, lower-budget game centered on the lowly infantry rather than huge armies or heroes.

Does it add value to the game and its components, or is it merely a desperate distraction? Well, seeing as this is a "Delightful Design" episode...

Considering they've said the next 4 Kill Team boxes (including the next one) will all be on a Space Hulk, I'm hype to see what they do, though Terminator's might be a little out of the power level for KT now haha

To be honest, if you are planning to go a tad deeper into Kill Team you're more likely to be buying more than one box. Considering how squad building works in this game.
Instead of picking individual models with point cost, you are given the choice between multiple fire teams and there's two big case :
1-Specialized fire teams which will allows you to choose minis up to a maximum numer. It is the case for most Kill Teams released with games (Kommandos & Veteran Guardsmen aka Krieg) with a lot of specialized models. Don't worry there is always a filler option if you don't have every specialized models (by example Krieg has Troopers).
Since models are modular, you're more likely need to buy two boxes if you want every option covered. Most leader have equipment tied to them.
2-40k Fire Team, some will ask you to pick between 1 to 2 Fire Teams, favorite example for this? Chaos Demon. YES. You can go full Demon if you want. You have the choice between Bloodletter, Daemonette, Plaguebearer, Pink Horror and Blue Horror and you can mix them. Quantities of models are indicated with the fire team. You can have 6 Bloodletter & 6 Daemonette.... Or mix and not mix. 12 Bloodletter? 12 Daemonette? 6 Bloodletter and 6 Pink Horror? You name it!

Okay on the Chaos Daemon example they don't have the best firing abilities (ie they don't), but in a equal play situation you have 10pts worth of equipment (they cost around 1 to 3 points) and you can equip your minis with those. Closers seems pretty harder to play in Kill Team. But once they're in melee range? Most minis go bye bye.

Kill Team is my favorite way to play with 40k Minis because I don't want to invest gibillion euros for 40k minis and for a game that seems to have weird ruling. Kill Team is simple and tactical, cover DO THINGS IN THIS GAME!
Positionning is ultra important, most weapon have unlimited range meaning your opponent sees you? Can shoot. I lost a good leader on that stuff by mispositionning him early and uh, turn one I had no leader anymore.

The Kill Team Beginner set (shown in the video) cost 85€, it's a great deal, but terrain is subpar (it IS a beginner set after all), but everything from 40k is compatible as long as the terrain is between 3'' & 6'' in height.

@2:15, this is now incorrect, as the Q1 2022 Balance Update made it so all marines (aside from Tactical) get one additional operative, so it's 6 Assault Intercessors.

I love Kill Team, it's my go-to game and the more I play it with "Bighammer, " friends, the more wanna keep playing Kill Team instead. Small form-factor, small armies, big fun. I usually play at the pub and it's a ton of fun.

Nice work on the video mate, cheers

This is honestly the best explanation of the rules I've seen! I've been playing the new edition of KT and I love it but trying to explain the rules to new people has been so tough for me, I think I know who I should sent them to now to learn the rules quickly

The line at the end makes me a very happy man.

Don't forget that half the core book is just lore

You really should look into Underworlds. It has much more modern rules and is nicely priced. The models are also stunning.

Would love to see more warhammer content in the future!
Warcry is the fantasy version of Kill Team (Though fairly different in the rules) and Warhammer Underworlds merges a miniatures games with a deck building game, both could be good shouts for future episodes 🙂

Hopefully Games Workshop will send you something to review

As others have said, the Marine teams now get a 6th model, but a nice, informative video overall! This edition of Kill Team is great, so I’m all for more folks giving it a try!

One of the great things about Kill Team is how its much more feasible to paint all of your miniatures. Instead of needing to paint 20+ minis you just have 5-10. For more experienced painters like myself it means you can really spend your time on your minis and get that quality up. When I used to play 40K the thought of changing teams and having to spend weeks painting near identical miniatures was a real turn off

Nice vid! I'd definitely recommended looking at my personal favorite sci-fi miniatures game infinity. The terrain and models for the game are beautiful, and I think the gameplay is unmatched by any other minis games. Think Xcom Enemy Unknown on the table

Ooo I wonder about your thoughts on Warcry and Underworld? They are to skirmish games based in the recent Age of Sigmar. Also love your thoughts on other skirmish games.

I'm not a fan of 40k but I would like to point out that if you buy the command starter boxset for 40k you get a full rule book which is A5 size and about the same size as the Kill Team started set book.
