Why Facebook is a natural monopoly

Facebook is everywhere, whether we like it or not. The sheer size and power of the company has convinced some that it's time to treat the company the same way we treat phone and cable companies: with anti-monopoly suits and heavy regulation. But reining in Mark Zuckerberg's monopoly will be harder than it sounds.

Correction: At 1:18, we mention that about 180 million people use Snapchat each month. This is actually the number of users each day, not each month. Snapchat does not release global monthly user numbers.

Why is it so hard for you to delete your facebook?

Facebook itself is already dead, but buying instagram and WhatsApp was such a smart move so they will last forever.

I remember when whatsapp used to charge us $1 for its service. Then facebook came in. I wouldn't mind paying again as long as no more FB ...

Actually I just deleted my facebook account last week. In 3 weeks they have to delete my account/data. I also deleted my instagram account. Next thing I want to replace is whatsapp with telegram or signal.

I don’t think you really need to delete your Facebook entirely as long as there’s something enjoyable on it. However, for an strong introvert like me, Facebook has also given me a lot of anxiety issues and it significantly deprives my concentration. So I made a decision few months ago to delete the app (but kept my Messenger apps) from my phone and remove the bookmark on my laptop browser. If I really miss the memes and good stuff on Facebook, I use my laptop to do the job (like a quick getaway). If I wanna check out events around me, I use another app, also developed by Facebook, called LOCAL. The first few days of detox is tough but now I’m getting used to it. Now I’m happier and I feel like I have more time and focus on other work (and YouTube). 🤭

Mark certainly has a point when he said it doesn't feel like a monopoly. He knows how quickly everything can change especially within the tech world. Users can one day, which is any day now, decide to wake up and not use Facebook anymore.

I quit Facebook about 10 years ago and never looked back. I don’t miss it at all and I feel I’m better off without it.

I've tried to get out of WhatsApp and honestly, no one in my family or friends wants to move to a different, more secure messaging app.

The difference is that telephones were a necessity when Bell was a monopoly while Facebook is just a way to waste time
