I just double checked the OED and you are correct. The first citation of "Kiss my arse" was from something called "Notes & Queries" from 1705. Also, Henry Fielding wrote "Kiss my A--" in his famous 1749 novel, Tom Jones. 😆

Good to know that one of my favorite phrases is historically accurate.

My 2nd (I think) great-grandparents made the gossip section of the local newspaper because they walked out on their spouses and ran off together. That was a fun newspaper clip to find online.

Me checking etymology online’s website to check if a modern-sounding phrase is actually modern or old enough to fit into my historical novel. Every. damn. day. 😂

Abby is miss-using the time machine again.

This reminds me of the translations of graffiti that was etched on the city walls in ancient times, calling out X who eats too much "kitty"; Y, whose wife left him because he whored too much; and Z, who had lost the use of his manhood (etc, etc...)

I agree with the person who suggested merch, this would be amazing on some kind of satchel, for example.

😂 As my mother told me, “Nothing is new under the sun”. So true.

😂 People have been people since day one. A few weeks ago I came across someone's home film from the early 1900s of a bunch of young adults out for a sleigh ride. This ride was both girls and guys, and involved shoving fellow riders off into the snow, the girls chasing the boys down the road, and both sexes play-wrestling with each other.
So much for the "ladylike propriety" and "separate spheres" I grew up hearing about!

Reminds me of when Mozart wrote a song for his friends that basically translates to Lick My Ass.
There's sheet music with lyrics and everything.

History is AWESOME. Recommended: "The Miller's Tale" from The Canterbury Tales.

I am gobsmacked! This is awesome!
Also, I didn't know we needed a book of instructions to learn gossiping as a society! 😂

This is amazing- I needed this in my life thank you Abby. Now, if I do swear at people, I can tell them it’s historically correct!
