Wilson Sensation String Review

Great value in a multifilament! A comfortable playing string with a nice blend of feel & playability. Known for its vibration dampening qualities, Sensation original lives up to its long-standing reputation as an arm-friendly string choice. It's a great option for players looking for a soft, playable alternative to natural gut, or for those seeking a more comfortable selection compared to the stiffer synthetic guts. This thinner 17g version is even softer and offers more spin potential while sacrificing a bit of durability compared to the 16g version.

@texnation,

This Wilson Sensation would be right up your alley as a multifilament on the stiffer side. Another couple good ones would be Wilson NXT Control or Head FXP Power.

@ Stimpy Gilford,

NXT is going to give you a little more playability and feel compared to your Sensation Supreme. I'd recommend trying it. The Luxilon strings are going to feel completely different than what you're used to because they are polyester strings as opposed to the multifilament strings that you are used to. They will feel stiffer, less comfortable, and less powerful.

@Le Duc Anh Alex,

If you're looking for power and comfort, I'd go with a nice multifilament like Tecnifibre NRG2 or Wilson Sensation. If you want a stiffer feel with more control, go with a good poly like Luxilon ALU Power or Volkl Cyclone. If you want the best of both worlds, you can hybrid them!

@TheNextSmoove,

It would feel pretty similar in a hybrid setup, with maybe a tad more control compared to the NXT. Sensation is a little stiffer than NXT, so the stringbed may feel slightly stiffer.

@lolzooweemama,

The strings that tested highest for spin potential in our TW University lab were a couple of polyester strings; Kirschbaum Spiky Shark and Volkl Cyclone. The thinner the gauge, the more spin potential it'll have.

@gookysakiwa,

Unfortunately, all strings will lose tension and playability over time, although they might last a little longer in some strings than others. If Sensation isn't working for you, maybe give Tecnifibre NRG2 a try. Going up to 17g would give you a little more playability, but you'd lose durability in the thinner gauge.

@ DanE396,

Unfortunately, it's not on our current list of strings to playtest, but I agree with you, it is a very interesting and unique string. We will note your interest and perhaps do it in the future.

@ Bob Jones,

ALU Power might be the liveliest of the Luxilon strings, but none of them are going to compare in terms of softness and power to Cyclone Tour.

Off the stringer it feels crisper than NRG2, but Sensation drops in tension faster and then they become closer in playability -- NRG remaining perhaps just a tad softer over the life of the string, but it's close. Sensation does not fray like NRG2, but the resulting durability is about the same.

I use sensation as a hybrid with head hawk rough in my Prostaff97L feels good

@ FedLegacy2K,

NXT Tour will offer the most playability and comfort in a hybrid setup. I'd recommend going with that.

Which monofilament string would be better for hybriding with Luxilon 4G? This, NXT, or NXT Tour? I hit with spin and some amount of power. I play 5 days a week with 4 hrs per day.

@IpodModzPr0,
Try stringing it at 58 lbs and see what you think.

@ William Madsen,

That will play great. Give it a shot!

If I were to string a babolat AeroPro drive GT lite with a full bed of sensation, what would be a good tension?

I love this string for play abilty..but not so much for durability..I decided to try the hybrids and some crazy guy recommended cross babbola tonic with babbola rpm blast for crosses..and I hate it..what do u think of this combo...am totally new at this.

Hi, I was wondering what one of the more powerful Luxilon strings would be. Currently I am using Volkl Cyclone Tour and I wonder which Luxilon string would be most comparable.

I usually love stringing the usual multi-filaments (NRG Bi-Ph) and syn-guts (PPS, Dunlop) at high tensions, but currently I am in a pursuit of a stiffer multi-filament to gain a bit more control. I am a 3.0 medium power hitter, any suggestions come to mind?

How would Sensation compare to NXT 16 if used in hybrid set-up with Luxilon ALU Rough?
