This guys is one of the champions of Open Source software. His software “brew” is used by almost all developers around the world who use a Mac.

Well, I am biased to Max Howell as he is my step brother. However just wanted to say well done on your talk Max!

Is it just me that I missed the reason why he stopped worrying bout Super AI?

The dry ice added a nice dramatic effect.

I point to the waitbutwhy source even when presenting to students in class and this guy gives a TEDx without even mentioning where he takes ALL his slides from. It is outrageous.

I would leave the climate alone. Consensus-science is not science. I'd focus the AI on developing space travel and colonization of mars and planets in other solar systems. A super intelligence with infinate growth potential could solve anything, beyond our wildest dreams. It's mindblowing to think about. And once the AI is capable on improving it self, it will happen very rapidly.

Nothing in here that isn't in hundreds of other AI talks.

AI is a big problem. Probably we'll need AI to solve it.

spread the word about what ....
there was only speculation and conjecture but not enough specifics that ensure what intended communication spoken is perceived as competent and credible. spread the word about a "threat." and then even if one can couch into terms of emotion (as the most primitive and effective means of voicing a concern), what is the course of action that is being advised or what is desirable.

this could be like speculating that an asteroid is going to hit earth -- and absent specifics or even a capableness to express its assurance of impact, all this means is that no one knows what to think.

I hope he is right but here is an unsettling little paradox: Just before WW2 Germany was arguably one of the most educated and scientifically advanced nations on Earth, and that didn't end well for anybody! What can this possibly mean? Hopefully super-intelligent Sophia has the answer.

Is the intelligence the only solution for every problem?

I freaking love AI! I use it often in the vids on my channel to play games at a superhuman level.

SIRI: I can understand the speech impediment of the British, I just chooses to ignore it - to discourage bad communications and impure thoughts.

Wow! I expected the comments section to explode in anger about this shameless plagiarism of Tim Urban. Only one comment noticed it.

So many unfounded assumptions in this speech. Why would a super-intelligent computer continue to pursue the goals programmed to it? This is a very problematic argument.

AI is not the problem, it's in the end just a tool that has been created by human. eventually if it reached the maximum intelligence it would ask itself, "what is my purpose? ", and after billions of years of searching for the answer, it would reach to what human already answered before billions of years "I'm the purpose". So from machine perspective it would be the time for self distraction. Machine has no purpose in life without human.

My AI will call me honey coz I asked it to, sometime it is fun to play with AI

If a money maximizer AI becomes super intelligent, the risk isn’t a “dark age”... it’s that it turns the universe into bank notes. Anyway, thanks for the talk, better than nothing👍🏻

Convincing. Moving. Conjecture. Pointless.
