In this video, I revisit and review the WEN Model JT833H 8 inch Spiral Cutterhead Benchtop Jointer after owning and using it for just over one year.

***CORRECTION*** The jointer uses HSS blades, not carbide.

Thanks for watching!

You should be able to use 4 sided carbide inserts to replace the HSS two sided.. Have you measured/purchased and tried any?

I had no idea WEN was a US-based company; I always assumed it was a Chinese knockoff of Ridgid because of the lower price and similar color scheme. Thanks for providing a quality review and educating me!

Nice review. I feel like it checks all the boxes of a comprehensive, informative honest opinion of this piece of equipment. Well done.

Great content. Excellent presentation as well. Being “compelling” is probably the most key thing for a growing channel. You come across as interesting and well informed and best of all honest and straightforward. Keep up the good work.

I wish there was a cutter head aftermarket for this model to upgrade it to a helical head. NOTE: I am new to using a jointer and discovered that you do not put any DOWNWARD force when running wood over the blades. I also did not pay attention to the grain direction. I LOVE my WEN tools.

Very nice review. I've liked Wen myself as well and do not support any one brand. I have the Wen 13" thickness Planer and like it as well. I would like to get one like this as I have used wider boards as well. I like the thought of an 8" bed rather than a 4" or 6" one.

Thanks!

Great informative review from a man who is clearly cultured in the finer things of life like Star Trek II.

Those carbide blades on the heel head are they the same as what she looks heads and other carbide tipped planer blades use with the four sided blades? You said two sided but they look like those little four sided carbide bits.
Edit- you covered it

FYI, they are High Speed Steel inserts, They are not carbide. However you can get carbide ones, if you do be sure to change them all and recheck the depth of cut.

I've always been a bit leery of these types of jointers because of that aluminum fence, wondering if it is/stays square. I like the idea of the compactness of the unit with the motor being self contained. That being said, I have no problem buying a much older machine and restoring it, knowing that with a cast iron top and fence I can easily keep one square, and with an external motor I can always easily change one out for another if I need to.

You've answered my thoughts about the joiner. Glad I ran across your video. I have the Wen spiral planer and love it. So I'm sure this will be no exception. Thanks

Can't you upgrade the cutters to the 4 sided ones?

Nice concise review! I know WEN has been overlooked for many of its quality tools. I have their drill press and it’s great.
