Stock 1992 Mazda Miata (NA) | Worth the Price Today?

Показать описание
The 1992 Mazda Miata (NA) is highly regarded in the car community because 'Miata is always the answer' as they say. But does the car require modifications to be maximally enjoyable, or is it still fun and rewarding in modern-day 2023 in its stock form? It has a great foundation, including its lightweight chassis, double wishbone suspension, and unassisted steering. However, there are also limitations with a car designed over 30 years ago. Do you think it's worth it today in stock form? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below.

Of course it’s worth it imho. It’s a classic that gives you an experience like no other in this price range

Had a '95, '06, and now '20. Each is special in its own way. I agree mostly why I got the ND because it still meets current crash ratings plus somehow just 2334lbs.

Brings back memories! I had some good times driving a friend's red NA Miata. For 7/10ths and under driving, they offer a lot of fun even just driving around town top-down.

I bought european version of Mazda MX-5 (i'm from Poland) for something like 5900$. 1991, Red color, steering wheel without airbag (original momo, black leather). But it has also huge defects. It needs repainting because the paint looks like it went through a sandstorm. I also need to replace the bumper and left fender. I also need to fix the brakes, put in a radio and new speakers. Fortunately, it's not rusty. I don't know how things are in the US or Western Europe, but in Poland a Miata in very good condition costs around 40000 PLN (10500$). I've seen even more expensive ones, for example the cosmo edition with burgundy paint and white interior for 55000 PLN. Crazy.

the safety issue is real, yes my BRZ is probably a little more safe than a 90s Miata but cars and trucks have gotten so big and heavy and texting distracted, also EVs are super heavy and fast - def has me wondering if I should be dailying a sports car these days.

I daily'd a 91 a package (no options) for years. I miss it a lot.

Had a 90 crystal white, 92red autocross, and my favorite. 93Le. All 3 had an intake, headers, hiflow cat, racing beat exhaust. Think around 130 hp?
All had sway bars and custom alignment.
The Le had jackson racing sways, and fcm bumpstops. Original Bilstiens and springs. The Le came with the R suspension. Really great handling car. Wish i still had it.

Buys a 57, 000 mile example to modify? This is why my bone stock 1990 in mint condition is becoming more valuable.

looking at a silver '96 model, 131k miles, $4200. Or an '04 racing green model, 78k miles for $3000. I love the NA's for aesthetics and nostalgia but like you said the later models are more safe and the 2004 is better performing while still retaining much of the NA models' looks.

I've driven a stock one and slightly modified (shocks, sway bars, motor mounts, bigger wheels), and I think the stock one is too soft. Motor mounts really transformed the car, since its only connected by 2 motor mounts in front and the diff mounts out back (no trans mounts). Made it feel like I installed a short shifter, and the stock one was already great. You can shift a lot faster with the stiffer mounts.

Interestingly enough I preferred the open diff on the stock one vs the LSD on the modified. The progressive traction breakaway on open diff felt like it suited the car more vs the LSD, felt too snappy on the LSD. But im not an expert on these things and it could of been the skinny all season tires on the stock one or something vs the wider summers on the modified one.

Agreed on the pedal spacing though, throttle needs some sort of extension.

Overall super fun car, my favorite thing is I can have fun on local streets. Dont even need to get on the highway (I too am afraid of texting while driving SUV drivers). I have to floor it just to keep up with traffic sometimes and its hilarious.

Does this have power steering? I’m looking at one a few hours a way from me online, same year, same color, same manual windows. Possibly the same model as this one. Did it have power steering?

I don’t understand the censoring of the speedometer.
It’s not like we can’t tell how fast you’re going.

Personally I think as long as you’re driving safely and within you and the cars limit. GO FOR IT.

Idk maybe it’s to appease YouTube or annoying people.
