FMTV EXHAUST SYSTEM MODS III #48

In this episode, I take the exhaust system beyond what you can do with just the original parts. Extending the exhaust several more feet and angling it towards the ground really cut down on the noise. As a matter of fact, the noise level is exactly the same as with the muffler installed. A bit more power, and a little less noise in the cab is what I have experienced.

Thanks for the ideas. Seeing the realestate created by moving that exhaust pipe has me thinking about some extra storage.

I was wondering what words you use for when it doesn't go according to plan. I don't think "Rats" is going to work for me...
Nice job on the muffler. Keep up the great work and we will all look forward to the next video.

Another great video. Did seem quitter toward end of your video. Like you’re gymnastic moves to get that pipe into place. 😂😂😂

Dave. Those are v band flanges. Cheap on ebay and Amazon. We laughed pretty hard at the time lapse with sound and the wrench. I think it's time for a 3/8 m12 fuel ratchet.. analog wrenches annoy me now.... great video as always.

Cool video! Thanks! Just a reminder though...decibels are on a logarithmic scale. So 80 dB = 79 dB x 10. 85 dB = 79 dB x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10. So, that’s why it’s important for noisy areas to be well understood. Exposure to 80 dB is where hearing damage begins (with some sustained exposure). I imagine the military requires sustained dB to be below 80...hence the muffler. I’d be curious to see / hear / measure the before/after in three places (cab, beside truck, behind truck). It sounds like it was remarkably similar in the cab..possibly quieter...but louder to the side of the truck. I imagine the change in dB from behind is substantial.

More hands make lighter work. You huff and puff, but get it done. Nice fabrication of the drop down bracket.

Hi Dave, do you have plans for the space you've made on the side were the exhaust came out? Ex. Storage or something like it.

Awesome work. I wonder how much better it would be if you run the pipe all the way out the back.

Did you measure the noise level at the same location each time? Distance has a large effect on sound pressure level.

Hi Dave, why not lead the exhaust on top?

Quiet sounding in the cab. Next time you move the truck, mow the driveway!
