Make more rules and make it harder for landlords and in the end, investors/landlords will go elsewhere

Landlords will not follow this. Renovations will not take place. Run down units will not get fixed or renovated ever.

What protections do landlords have if tenants squat / fail to pay rent / damage property? - aside from having to cover the mortgage while fighting with the Landlord Tenants Bureau for about a year before getting them evicted?

This new legislation is so wrong. It’s not fair and no one will spend money to invest. Landlords have mortgage, fees, realty taxes to pay. Do you think renters live for free? Horrible rules and policies.
It’s time to leave Canada

Its a business, just like any other. If the banks make money expensive then the costs rise. Its not the landlords fault. Nobody ever points their fingers at the banks.

The more regulations you put on landlords the less rental properties will be on the market. This will cause more demand and raise the prices of whatever rentals are left.

The focus should also be on the banks. They should forego the mortgage payments too. Let's them share in the burden and not just the landlords. But we never hear that.

The real culprit is inflation. The interest rates have gone up, how is the landlord going to afford keeping at the existing rent? On top of that if tenants have to move out for a few weeks, they will be forced to find a new place instead. This law does not make any sense.

The effects of the downturn are beginning to sink in. People are being impacted by the long-term decline in property prices and the housing market. I recently sold my house in the Sacramento area, and I want to invest my lump-sum profit in the stock market before prices start to rise again. Is now the right moment to buy, or not?

If you are not allowing landlord to make money, no one wants to be a landlord. With current high interest rate, being a landlord does not make sense. Politicians are trying to win favorable votes but they are not capable of producing more units to the market.

What about tenants who refuse to pay rent and destroy property?
Keep giving tenents rights and not making it fare for the owners too will just cause people to not rent their spaces

So they'll kick out an existing tenant for renovations..but where are they supposed to go? A motel? The average person (especially those on low incomes), cannot afford that. Basically renters will have no choice but to find a new place, as landlords can use this to kick people out (for 2+ months, or however long the renos take), and increase the prices.

its just going to cause more slum rentals there is no benefit for landlord to reno

Oh yes rent control, we know how that worked in the past. No one will invest in building new apartment buildings. What does the NDP care they’ll say anything to get voted in.

This only helps a very little bit.
Rent in Toronto is too high. It needs to be limited

Torontonians completely scammed by the city hall with subsidy housing. Why do not support of renting apartments by subsidy prices now? When they will build a houses for the low income canadians or we all making $3000/m? Really?

so landlord don't rent, let people go homeless, that will definitely increase your property value

Any sort of control means something aint working right. If Ontario had a well-balanced housing market we wouldn't need to have any controls at all. Renting should have never been a long-term solution for residents, but people are stuck renting forever and fighting for units because ontario doesn't build enough. Apparently, Canada has a shortage of land and material

How about getting out of the way from more house building..?

I had a $100 rent increase for my tenant, but it is only a $40 increase. My condo fee and insurance was also increased…
